Job Description

Provides patient care services within the scope of practice for the licensed physician. Serves as physician practice Medical Director.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities are as follows. Other duties may be assigned.

1.1 Maintains an environment of safety for patients, self and others.
1.2 Provides professional medical services to patients.
1.3 Exercises independent professional judgment in the care and treatment of patients.
1.4 Orders and prescribes medical treatment, diagnostic testing, nursing care, and other health and medical services.
1.5 Prescribes medically appropriate pharmaceuticals.
1.6 Consults and counsels with patients and families.
1.7 Provides health and medical education to patients and families.
1.8 Refers patients as needed to appropriate medical specialist and other healthcare professionals to assure appropriate multidisciplinary care is provided.
1.9 Documents medical and clinical care in the patient's medical record.
1.10 Assigns the appropriate diagnostic and procedural codes to permit third party insurance billing.
1.11 Supervises other medical professionals.
1.12 Adheres to the principles of medical ethics.

Serves as physician practice Medical Director.

2.1 Works in collaboration with others to develop and support strategic goals to enhance quality of patient care, expansion of medical services, and competitive position in market place.
2.2 Responsible for ensuring compliance with established policies and procedures, participation in ongoing quality improvement activities, and achieving patient and employee satisfaction goals.
2.3 Responsible for achieving performance and financial targets.
2.4 Establishes regularly scheduled communication meetings with staff and providers, actively participates in Medical Director meetings and associated activities, and represents practice at the organizational level.


Graduation from an accredited school of medicine. Board certified in specialty. Prefer two years of practice experience.


Licensure requirements: North Carolina Medical License, DEA License, BCLS certification and ACLS certification. Board certified in area of specialty.


Ability to communicate clearly and effectively to individuals from varied backgrounds. Ability to read and interpret professional journals, technical manuals, and regulatory guidelines. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from patients, employees, other physicians, executive leadership, and the general public. Ability to effectively utilize electronic medical record system, Word, Excel, and Outlook. High-level quantitative and qualitative diagnostic reasoning skills.
