Assists physician with procedures as requested. Explains procedures and tests to patient or family. Documents activities as directed.
Performs office duties such as taking inventory, re-stocking items, and ordering supplies. May perform other clerical duties related to clinical activities.
Provide direct, age appropriate care to patients as outlined in plan of care including, but not limited to cleaning/sterilizing instruments, cleaning work area, changing linens, re-stocking, rooming patients, assess vital signs such as blood pressure, height, weight, pain score and location, allergies, medication reconciliation, and social events. Document findings in computerized or paper records per clinic protocol.
Answer multiple phone lines per clinic protocol. Collect pertinent information including special requests from callers and route calls appropriately. Assist with coordinating interpreter services as needed.
Assist in the orientation of new employees and students.
Register patients through EPIC using current approved protocol.
Perform daily charge reconciliation reports, review claims WQ per hospital policies to insure accurate and timely billing process.
Perform new/return scheduling requests from staff, facilities, providers, and patients. Also schedule from WQ as assigned. Mail questionnaire to patients requested by certain providers. Ensure all no-show, cancelled, and rescheduled appointments are properly coded in EPIC. Assign patients to the appropriate wait list/recall as needed by following approved UNCHCS Care Access policies.
Administers medication orally, intravenously, subcutaneously/IM or per rectum following doctor's orders and outpatient clinic policy. Observes patient for adverse reactions and documents appropriately.
Obtains specimens ordered by provider, to include sputum, blood, and urine. Labels accurately and send to appropriate lab.
Other duties as assigned.
Completion of a Medical Assisting program accredited by either the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accreditation Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) OR meets the work eligibility (employed as a medical assistant for a minimum of five out of the last seven years, no more than two years of which may have been as an instructor in a post- secondary medical assistant program. Work experience must include both clinical and administrative duties) required by American Medical Technologists (AMT). Medical Assistant certification by either the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), American Medical Technologists (AMT), American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA), National Healthcareer Association (CCMA) or National Center for Competency Testing (NCMA).
