Job Description

The UNC Health Care System (UNCHCS) is looking for an experienced pharmacy leader for the position of Regional Director of Pharmacy.

The position exists as a member of the system pharmacy executive leadership team, reports to the System Vice President for Pharmacy Services, and also has accountability to local entity executives. This position will establish and maintain pharmacy objectives and strategies that effectively contribute to the successful execution of the overarching UNC Health Care System Pharmacy strategic plan.

The Regional Director’s scope includes oversight of pharmacy services at three hospital campuses: UNC Medical Center, UNC Hospitals Hillsborough, and Chatham Hospital. Leadership responsibilities for all 3 campuses will include clinical, operational, and financial aspects of pharmacy services. This position will lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of advanced clinical and operational pharmacy services that promote quality patient outcomes in their assigned region.

The successful leader will also have an important role in the promotion of the UNCHCS academic mission by leading one of the largest Pharmacy Residency Programs in the nation (39 Pharmacy Residents) as well as overseeing the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy’s largest student pharmacist rotation site (UNC Medical Center). The successful candidate will receive an appointment in the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy and will serve as member on the Dean’s Executive Committee.


Degree in Pharmacy required. Master's degree in Pharmacy, Health Services, Business Administration, or related field is strongly preferred. Residency training preferred.


Licensed as a registered pharmacist or eligible for licensure to practice pharmacy in the state of North Carolina is required.


Ten (10) years of pharmacy experience, with at least seven (7) years management experience in pharmacy; proven management skills, including program planning and development, project management, finance, performance, quality and human resource management.

Leadership experience in an academic medical center environment highly preferred.

Demonstrated experience overseeing a successful and highly respected residency program preferred.
