Nursing Assistant II - Behavioral Health Emergency Department
UNC Health Care Behavioral Health Emergency Department provides care to approximately 5,000 patients annually. The department operates a 24 hour, 7 days a week, 32 bed unit staffed by Registered Nurses, Licensed Clinical Social Workers, Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioners, Case Managers, Physical, Occupational, and Recreational Therapists, Psychiatrists, and Nursing Assistants. Working closely with Emergency Medicine, we partner with them to provide compassionate, quality mental health care, focusing on the unique needs of patients and families.
A new state of the art Emergency Department Transitional Unit scheduled to open in the spring of 2020 will provide 24 additional beds for patients seeking mental health care in a patient centered environment.
Functions of the NA II include but are not limited to obtaining vital signs in the care areas; Foley insertions; transport of patients; sitting with psychiatric patients and ensuring the safety of our behavioral health patients. Opportunities to be trained in phlebotomy and utilized within the Behavioral Health Emergency Department. Provides routine direct and indirect patient care in a hospital setting. All work performed is under the direct supervision of a registered nurse or physician.
Hours/Shifts: 36hr/week, Day/Night rotations, 12 hour shifts, with weekend rotation. Position is eligible for benefits.
High School diploma or GED. Listed as Nursing Assistant II with the North Carolina Board of Nursing. Listed as Nursing Assistant I with the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services. Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification required. Six (6) months related nursing assistant experience.
