Job Description

This application is for new graduate RN’s who are currently in their final semester of nursing school. New Graduate RN needed for the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit - CICU. This is a 36 hours/week, day/night and weekend rotation, with flexible self-scheduling. It is expected that applicants will have taken the NCLEX exam prior to the first day of employment.

Cardiac Intensive Care Unit - CICU is a 13 bed unit that provides patient and family centered care with the interdisciplinary healthcare team to medical cardiology patients. The CICU specializes in treatment of acute and chronic heart failure, cardiogenic shock, post cardiac arrest, STEMI and NSTEMI, noninvasive valve repair (TAVR), and vascular patients. CICU nurses are educated to successfully manage and care for patients with advanced hemodynamic monitoring, pulmonary artery catheters, temporary and permanent pacemakers, ventricular assist devices, intra-aortic balloon pumps, continuous dialysis, and undergoing hypothermic care. CICU nurses are also trained to serve on the adult code blue team, rapid response team, and support the cardiac cath lab. 

Experience in cardiology or critical care is preferred but not required. Our orientation program is tailored to your existing skills and experience with supplemental and specialty courses to expand your knowledge. The unit supports continuous interdisciplinary learning opportunities, professional growth, and critical care certification. 

The CICU is part of UNC Center for Health and Vascular Care whose mission is to provide an interdisciplinary approach to the care of patients with cardiac and vascular disease. Within the Center for Health and Vascular Care you will encounter a variety of learning experiences and a dynamic work environment that will appeal to nurses at all levels of experience. New Graduate Nurses are part of the UNC Medical Center Residency Program (NRP). This program is a yearlong program supporting transition from academia to practice for new graduate nurses. The program is layered on top of orientation to provide mentored clinical relationships which support development as a professional nurse.


Qualifications

Requires graduation from a state-accredited school of professional nursing. Bachelor’s degree in nursing, preferred.

 

Must be enrolled in an accredited program within four years of employment, if hired after January 6, 2014 and obtain a baccalaureate degree with a major in nursing or a Master’s degree with a major in nursing within seven years of employment date.

 

Must be licensed to practice as a registered nurse in the State of North Carolina by the Board of Nursing by the first day of employment. Current healthcare provider BLS/CPR certification required.
