New Graduate RN needed for Cardiothoracic Stepdown Unit/CTSU
Target start date: Summer 2019


This opportunity is for new graduate RN who are currently in their final semester of nursing school or who have graduated within the past 12 months of the anticipated start date and have worked as an RN for less than 6 months. It is expected that candidates be eligible to practice as an RN in North Carolina prior to their start date.

This position is 36 hours per week, day/night and weekend rotation, with self-scheduling to meet individual and department needs. 

The Cardiothoracic Stepdown Unit is an intermediate critical care 13-bed unit responsible for the care of cardiothoracic and vascular surgery patients. Nurses in this clinical area have the unique opportunity to care for our specialized surgical population

· Have undergone major cardiac, vascular, or thoracic surgery

· Have undergone heart/lung transplantation or mechanical device implantation

· Have had procedures requiring postoperative telemetry and/or respiratory monitoring.

Nurses also manage patients with ventricular assist devices, including those used for destination therapy and bridge to transplant. In addition RN's gain valuable experience managing intrapleural drainage devices, interpreting cardiac rhythms and monitoring cardiac drips.

We are recruiting for a detailed-oriented RN with a proactive work ethic and strong, effective communication skills across the entire inter-professional team. This position qualifies for an extensive benefit package including PTO hours accrued based on the number of hours hired.


New Graduate Nurses are part of the UNC Medical Center Residency Program (NRP). This program is a yearlong program supporting transition from academia to practice for new graduate nurses. The program is layered on top of orientation to provide mentored clinical relationships which support development as a professional nurse.

Qualifications

Requires graduation from a state-accredited school of professional nursing. Bachelor’s degree in nursing, preferred.

 

Must be enrolled in an accredited program within four years of employment, if hired after January 6, 2014 and obtain a baccalaureate degree with a major in nursing or a Master’s degree with a major in nursing within seven years of employment date.

 

Must be licensed to practice as a registered nurse in the State of North Carolina by the Board of Nursing by the first day of clinical care. Current healthcare provider BLS/CPR certification required.
