RN needed for WOCN specialist position. This RN works autonomously and has authority, responsibility and accountability for assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of wound, ostomy and continence care throughout the inpatient care areas at both the main campus in Chapel Hill and the Hillsborough Campus.

This RN serves as a consultant, provides direct care and education to highly complex patients; provides staff educational programs in this area of expertise, maintains Skins Resource Nurse Program quarterly, participates in hospital wide committees and projects as needed. 

WOCN specialist also serves as primary educator to all patients undergoing ostomy surgery. This RN is responsible for providing specialized consultation on wound, ostomy and continence issues for patients, families, nursing and medical staff.  Serves as a consultant in the management of patients with draining wounds, fistula and tubes, serves as a consultant for the treatment of patients with altered skin integrity due to pressure necrosis, drainage, disease, injury or incontinence.

This position requires knowledge related to practice and procedures in the area of WOC nursing and discharge planning, knowledge of infection control, knowledge of adult learning principles and teaching strategies and ability to plan, develop, coordinate and teach didactic programs.

This is a full time, 40 hours per week position, primarily days (8 am to 4:30 pm), but may involve some evening and weekend hours.
