Position: Pharmacy Technician Specialist
Location: Imperial Center / Durham
Hours: Full Time, 40 hrs/wk; Days; 8:00am-4:30pm; Monday--Friday
This position may involve support of various hospitals and health care systems within the UNC Health Care System, but will be employed by Rex Hospital, Inc. (this includes, but is not limited to, for purposes of payroll, health benefits, retirement options, and applicable policies).
The UNC Shared Services Center (SSC) Pharmacy Supply Chain Team is an integral part of Pharmacy Services throughout the UNC Health Care System. The SSC Pharmacy team serves pharmacy locations at many hospitals throughout the Health Care System and supports medication needs for multiple ambulatory practice sites.
The Pharmacy Technician Specialist demonstrates a high level of expertise and skill in pharmacy operations, data validation and input, data analysis, project coordination, and compliance with the Drug Supply Chain Security Act (DSCSA). The Pharmacy Technician Specialist has a high level of autonomy in the role, but consults with Pharmacy Supply Chain Management Leadership as needed.
Generally, the Pharmacy Technician Specialist may be required to assist with operational duties, but more than 50% of the time will be dedicated to the following:
Specific roles include but are not limited to:
- Capture and maintain data entry and management of all UNCHCS product tracing information obtained through purchasing. This includes transaction information, transaction history, and transaction statements (T3 information)
Ensure proper storage of T3 information and prompt retrieval upon request
Troubleshoots missing and incomplete T3 information
Primary point of contact for DSCSA software vendor and suppliers
Serves as a content expert of DSCSA rules, regulations, timelines, and changes in the legislation
Develops workflows, policies, and procedures to drive DSCSA compliance
Trains and educates pharmacy technicians, pharmacists, and other pharmacy stakeholders on DSCSA compliant processes
Engages in quality improvement projects and initiatives to maintain DSCSA compliance
Conducts quality assurance and system performance checks to ensure pharmacy supply chain management data integrity
Generate reports, interpret data sets, participates in audits, etc.
Documents and reports system maintenance changes, audit findings, and/or quality control results
Trains end users on reporting and dashboards
- Customer support and service recovery
Pharmaceutical logistics management
Inventory management and receiving
Pharmacy technology operations
All work is carried out under the supervision of a licensed Pharmacist.
- Computer software skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Visio, RxWorks etc.)
- Managing and analyzing large scale databases, data sets, and reports
- High-level written and verbal communication skills
HS diploma or equivalent. Completion of an academic pharmacy technician training program preferred. Registration with the NC Board of Pharmacy. CPhT from PTCB unless enrolled in pharmacy school. One year of pharmacy technician experience required.
