Job DescriptionJob Summary: Performs ultrasound procedures at a technical level that will require independent judgment.
Essential Job Functions:
The following is a summary of the essential functions of this job. The incumbent may perform other duties, both major and minor, that are not mentioned below; and specific functions may change from time to time. Prepares patient for ultrasound procedure. Produces diagnostic quality exams. Maintains safe environment for the technologist and patient. Understands principles and physics of ultrasound. Assists radiologist in performing biopsy procedures. Performs ultrasound procedures in operating suite and patient room. Is able to identify and address the needs of different patient age groups – pediatric, adolescent, and geriatric – demonstrate the ability to effectively communicate with these patients.
Education and formal training:
High school graduate. Graduate of AMA approved school of ultrasound technology, registered or registry eligible RDMS
No formal training or experience needed if the person has the above educational requirements.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities:
Verbal communication skills required to relate to people of varying levels of education and background. Must be able to handle stressful or confrontational interactions with patients. Must be able to handle emergency situations with patients. Knowledge of health care services specifically imaging modalities and how departments relate to each other.
Must be able to turn, position, and transfer patients. Must be able to assume awkward positions such as bending and twisting. Must be able to effectively operate diagnostic equipment. Must have near visual acuity to assess patient's physical condition when performing exams, and to evaluate film for diagnostic quality. Must be able to speak and hear for communication with patients. Must be able to lift 75 lbs.
