Job Description

This position may involve support of various hospitals and health care systems within the UNC Health Care System, but will be employed by Rex Hospital, Inc. (this includes, but is not limited to, for purposes of payroll, health benefits, retirement options, and applicable policies)

Job Summary

The Operational Analytics Consultant (OAC) facilitates projects focused on prioritization, requirements analysis, verification, delivery, and transition to production of analytical assets that generate real value for decision makers and analysts across UNC Health Care.  A successful OAC should be well-versed in how to:

·        Oversee prioritization of business reporting/dashboard needs

·        Develop strategies to enhance analytics delivery

·        Lead a team of stakeholders and SMEs in assessing analytics needs

·        Query data using SQL and assist with the definition of new data assets

·        Assess alignment of a plan with broader analytics strategy

·        Facilitate the execution of analytics strategy and/or build efforts

·        Build dashboards/reports in a BI tool (preferably Tableau)

·        QA deliverables and advocate for high quality of analytics assets broadly

·        Support the advancement of a comprehensive data governance program 

As a critical member of the Analytics Consulting Team within Enterprise Analytics & Data Sciences (EADS), the OAC may also assist other OACs and Advanced Analytical Consultants (AACs) with promotion of analytics maturity across UNC Health Care System (UNCHCS) and potentially with the development of predictive/prescriptive analytical assets.

Description of Duties

Analytics Strategist and Lead:Leads executive stakeholders and analysts through exercises of rationalizing analytics needs, with the goal of only working on the most important and necessary items.Well-versed in the build and management of reporting needs.Often leads initiatives independently and must be capable of articulating needs from start to finish of the request.

BI Developer:Although experience with Tableau and other UNC-specific BI tools is not a requirement for this role, the OAC must be capable of quickly becoming a skilled BI developer with UNC HCS BI tools.Build is not the focus of this position, but may be necessary depending on the project.

Project Manager: As an independent or team contributor, timely and effective execution of well-scoped projects is critical to this position. Defines projects, develops project plans, and sets priorities for working teams. Uses foresight to keep projects focused and on track. Plans and facilitates meetings.

Analysis: Performs gap analyses that drive strategic and tactical planning for analytical asset development. Uses systems thinking and peer/customer collaboration to analyze and uncover root causes of complex issues and design improved solutions to maximize efficiency. May take on projects that require development and presentation of analysis.

Risk Management: Ensures all proper internal controls are in place to safeguard assets of the system and satisfies internal and external regulatory requirements. Champions processes to ensure data integrity and quality that safeguards against the risk of mis-analysis.Supports a team approach to QA’ing work developed by EADS.

Communication and Building Relationships: The OAC is a versatile leader, equally fluent in communicating with senior executives and operations staff, in orchestrating multidisciplinary teams through contentious discussions into system-wide decision-making. Demonstrates political savvy and strong emotional intelligence.

Strategic Planning: Interface with all UNC Health Care entities and effectively communicate strategies, successfully elicit support and provide assistance implementing those strategies.

Change Management: Make appropriate strategic proposals based on where the organization is and define transformative steps to guide the organization to where it needs to be in order to adequately develop and manage data strategy and assets.

Preferred Qualifications

Minimum of four years of experience in planning and development of analytical assets (dashboards, reports, analytics strategies/prioritization, etc.)

Basic understanding or exposure to Data Architecture/Data Management

Prior Consulting and Program Management experience preferred, but not required

Prior health care system/provider experience is preferred, but not required

Prior Epic Clarity, Caboodle, or workflow experience is preferred, but not required

Qualifications

Education Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate discipline.
 

Licensure/Certification Requirements:

No licensure or certification required.
 

Professional Experience Requirements:

Four (4) years of data-related experience.
 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Requirements:

Ability to function with limited guidance and be comfortable working on projects alone or leading more junior team members.
