Radiologic Technologist - Rex Express Cares

Status: Per Diem

Location: Morrisville, NC

Work hours for this position will be casual

*Training prior to opening will be located at one of our other UNC Urgent Care openings.*

Maintains an environment of safety for patients, self and others

Interviews patient and family members as appropriate to determine concise history and appropriateness of exam protocol. Explains procedure and takes appropriate safety measures.

Documents procedures in accordance with departmental policies and procedures and state regulations. Documents appropriate information on the request. Communicates needed information to the Radiologists. Confirms accuracy of information on the request.

Performs quality diagnostic radiographic exams in multiple settings to include: proper positioning, adhering to safety precautions, and evaluating image quality.

Uses CR and PACS systems properly. Enters information correctly in the PACS system. Troubleshoots equipment and communicates needed information to the PACS team. Adheres to departmental PACS policies and procedures.

Observes patient to monitor patient safety and comfort level. Takes corrective action as appropriate.

Maintains equipment and room in good operating condition. Troubleshoots equipment problems and aids in coordinating repairs and rescheduling patients as necessary.

Evaluates quality of images, communicate with radiologist if any question regarding findings

Plans and organizes patient care in clinics. Escorts patient to their destination(s); obtains and records vital signs and medical histories. Prepares patients for exams and procedures.

Provides phlebotomy services. Performs tests including, but not limited to: EKGs and basic laboratory tests. Collects and prepares laboratory specimens.

Cleans, organizes, and maintains examination rooms, work area and other assigned areas.

Performs office duties including inventory, and ordering supplies. May perform other clerical duties related to clinical activities.

Participates in unit performance improvement activities.

Receives and greets patients and families with excellent customer service upon arrival. 

Processes patient financial information which includes obtaining/updating insurance information, coding visits using ICD10 and CPT codes, entering/reviewing charges, balancing receipt and cash drawer daily and responding to questions related to billing

Responds to telephone inquiries according to the individualized needs of the patient; directs calls, as appropriate, to other staff or physician.

Provides back up and/or support to coworkers in the clinic. This includes providing assistance in schedule coverage and assisting coworkers with daily operations

Obtains accurate demographic and insurance information from patients and registers them in Epic.

Uses problem-solving skills to gather and verify essential information needed for reimbursement. Interprets, applies and communicates Rex Policies regarding the insurance aspects of patient care to assure optimal reimbursement for both the patient and Rex. Provides general information about urgent care policies, co-payment and insurance payments to the patient. Processes requests for medical records according to the Rex Express Care Release of Information Policy

Helps with departmental patient care flow; includes assisting patients in and out of wheelchairs, transporting patients to radiology and assisting with cleaning the exam room, as necessary.

Maintains the 15-minute Carolina Care Express Care patient rounding behavior.

Adheres to HIPPA in all aspects of the role.

Responsible for attending or acknowledging all Express Care staff meetings. This is achieved by either attending the meetings in person or by reviewing and signing off on meeting minutes.


Experience: Six months prior hospital experience desired.

Education: Bachelor's degree, Associate's degree or Certificate from an accredited School of Radiologic Technology preferred. *New Graduates must complete ARRT registration within 3 months of hire date.


Licensure: ARRT, BCLS
