With the More to Explore Pathway Program, you will enjoy:

  • hands-on training
  • shadowing experience in your area(s) of interest
  • interactive coursework in your preferred area in preparation of your transition from Medical-Surgical

How does the program work?

All employees must remain in good standing, complete all aspects of orientation, and ensure clinical competency before transitioning.

All candidates will begin to build a foundation on a Medical-Surgical unit. 

These candidates will meet with their Managers to discuss overall performance and discuss interests to generate clinical shadowing. After shadowing, the candidate can enroll into additional classes for interactive coursework.

For New Grads, the More to Explore Pathway Program will run concurrently with the New Graduate Nurse Residency Program.

How do I qualify?

New Graduate Nurse Applicants are defined as:

  • Nursing student in final semester of nursing program or;
  • Nursing graduate within 12 months of graduation; and
  • RN who has worked less than 6 months as a registered nurse.

Experienced Nurse:

Education Requirements: 

  • Graduation from a school of professional nursing. 
  • If hired after January 6, 2014, must be enrolled within four years of employment, and obtain a Bachelor's degree with a major in Nursing or a Master's degree with a major in Nursing within seven years of employment date. 

Licensure/Certification Requirements: 

  • Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of North Carolina. 
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification Professional Experience Requirements: 
  • One (1) year of nursing experience.
