Summary:
Serves as the principal leader of nursing practice for all UNC REX Physician Services Nurses and clinical staff within department.
Responsibilities:
1. Serves as the principal leader of nursing practice for all UNC REX Physician Services clinical staff (MA’s, CMA’s, NA’s, RN's, LPN's) within department with a direct reporting relationship to the AVP, Physician Practices and an indirect reporting relationship to the UNC REX Chief Nursing officer.
2. Plans, organizes and directs nursing and clinical services for UNC REX Physician Services locations within department and serves as the liaison for the provision of those same services in the Inpatient setting. Ensures the highest standards of nursing care through the selection and development of RN Team Leads, Charge Nurses, Nurse Preceptors and the UNC REX Physician Services Nursing Clinical Educator for department. Collaborates with physicians, Advanced Practice Providers, clinical educators, RN team leads, practice managers and Physician Services leadership on clinical workflows and identified clinical issues.
3. Provides direction to ensure the uniform and consistent delivery of highest standards for quality patient care based on established regulatory, professional and organizational standards. Maintains proficiency about current practice standards in ambulatory nursing. Utilizes this knowledge to lead performance improvement activities and create excellent patient experiences.
4. Schedules and performs patient rounds at all sites to monitor and evaluate the quality and appropriateness of nursing care. Collaborates with UNC REX Physician Services Directors and Managers in the completion of annual evaluations of nursing competence.
5. Manages the administration of the Professional Development and Advancement Program for Nurses for the Physician Services department including receipt and review of advancement portfolios, communication and support with Physician Services nurses on the requirements of the Program, coaching and direction as appropriate, and other related functions.
6. Directs the activities of the department Clinical Educator, RN team leads, and in conjunction with Physician Services administrative leadership, leads the development, implementation and expansion of learning opportunities and skills development for all Physician Services clinical staff in department. This includes the development and maintenance of effective and efficient nursing care delivery models that reflect patient and family centered care across the continuum.
7. Collaborate with RN team leads, practice managers and Physician Services leadership in determining the clinical budgetary recommendations including the nursing personnel and patient care materials necessary for provision of care.
8. Ensure UNC REX Physician Services nurses and clinical staff in department attain and maintain required certifications and abide by the standards for care established by our organization, state and federal laws, and accreditation and certification bodies.
9. In coordination with the UNC REX Physician Services Clinical Educator for department, develop programs for the effective recruitment, orientation, training and retention of nurses and clinical staff to meet the staffing needs of the department.
10. Recommend, develop and implement clinical policies for the delivery of safe care and treatment to Physician Services patients.
11. Collaborates with similar departments within UNCHS to ensure EHR clinical workflows/screens are congruent across sites.
12.Ensures Joint Commission preparedness.

● BSN and Master’s degree required.
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
● RN NC License and related specialty certification required.
Professional Experience Requirements:
● Four years related experience and/or training.
Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities Requirements:
● Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conforms to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors. Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
