Summary:
The manager of REX Performance Improvement is responsible for project and team facilitation, project management and data analytics. Work includes technical analyses or facilitation of large multi-disciplinary teams and health care system initiatives. The manager will mentor staff to expand their knowledge of lean six sigma and/or data analytics to advance the organization’s lean infrastructure and develop careers. The manager will also supervise engineers and analysts on project and analytical work. Manager will provide input into the performance improvement strategy, budget and project commitments and priorities. Flexibility, innovation, creativity, good listening skills and continuous improvement are characteristics of a successful manager.


Responsibilities:
 1. Administers the unit's Human Resources function in accordance with Health Care System policies/procedures. Responsibilities include selecting, training, evaluating, counseling, and disciplining of employees within the work unit, ensuring staff are meeting or exceeding productivity and quality expectations, ensuring staff comply with relevant regulations, policies and certifications, maintaining employee attendance records, and performance evaluation of analytic support and quality improvement professionals. 

2. The manager plays a vital role in the execution of the UNC REX Performance Improvement strategy and is responsible for the quality of the facilitation and data analyses produced by the department to drive continuous improvement efforts. 

3. Manager will help coaches and analysts define and develop charters and measures of success, coordinate data needs with Information Services Department and/or Enterprise Analytics & Data Sciences, counsel regarding statistical analyses and review analyses/dashboards for consistency and accuracy to adhere to UNCHCS data governance standards and methodologies. 

4. Support director in annual budget process and coordinate spend to meet budget. In projects, work with Finance to determine the financial contribution and establish a return on investment. 

5. Manager will help lead the development of the Performance Improvement Hoshin, ensure Managing for Daily Improvement Boards (MDI) are updated routinely, maintain project Gantt chart, determine resource and timeline constraints, and work with team to maintain departmental SharePoint site with charters, A3s, final presentations and other methods required to organize and manage analytical initiatives and data stewardship. 

6. Manager will lead his/her own breadth of projects while performing managerial duties. 

7. Provide leadership to REX Performance Improvement team by leading coaches and analytic team meetings. Prioritize agenda items and follow-up on previously discussed action items to ensure issues are resolved in a timely manner. 

8. Work with director and senior leaders to align goals, resources and priorities to overall strategy, high reliability efforts and health care system initiatives. 

Highly Preferred:

  •  Black Belt, Green Belt, Certified Kaizen Coach or 5+ years of SQL/Tableau experience/certification is required.

Education Requirements:
● Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering or related Engineering field, Nursing, Business Administration, Health Administration or related field. Master’s Degree Preferred
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
● Black Belt, Green Belt or Certified Kaizen Coach is required.
Professional Experience Requirements:
● Prefer prior hospitalist experience.
Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities Requirements:

 Knowledge of Epic & data warehouse structures, GitHub Python and R preferred. 

● Language Skills: Should be able to communicate proficiently in English. 

REASONING ABILITY High-level quantitative and qualitative reason skills are essential in order to diagnosis medical and clinical issues presented by patients. 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS North Carolina Medical License, DEA License, BLS/ACLS certification preferred. Board certified in Internal Medicine.
