Summary:
The Pharmacy Technician Supervisor position helps to direct and supervise the day-to-day technician operations of the department for the evening and night shift, and plays a key role in meeting hospital and departmental goals. They may assist in recruiting, arranging training, and conduct Human Resource related functions. Must work evenings and nights. 

Responsibilities:

  • Supervises evening and night technician activities for Central Inpatient Pharmacy (CIP), Sterile Products Area (SPA) and Operating Room (OR) Pharmacy satellite. Assigns duties and tasks to employees. Monitors workload and makes appropriate adjustments. Creates and monitors work schedules to ensure adequate staffing (CIP/SPA only) 
  • Serves as a subject matter expert in core pharmacy technician job functions, including sterile and non-sterile medication preparation, delivery, technology and automation support, and telephone triage 
  • Facilitate evening and night shift huddles to cascade communications from the Acute Care Pharmacy Operations (ACPO) leadership team regarding operational updates 
  • Upholds all applicable organizational, departmental, and work unit human resource related policies and procedures 
  • Serves as a resource for employee HR-related needs, interpretation and application of UNC policies and procedures 
  • Assists with establishing goals and objectives for the team that align with and synergize the departmental quality goals. Monitors and identifies opportunities for improvement, utilizing appropriate performance improvement tools and techniques 
  • Assists in the selection of new technician talent, the training of, and evaluating their performance. Conducts 1 on 1 meetings with team, documenting progress, motivating and counseling when needed 
  • Collaborates with other technician supervisors to review routine compliance audits – making appropriate and timely action plans to correct any noncompliance discovered 
  • May be assigned additional duties as deemed necessary by ACPO Leadership 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Three years of pharmacy technician experience required with at least one year of sterile compounding or two years of pharmacy technician experience and two years of supervisory experience in related or unrelated field. 
  • Experience in managing a team with several direct reports 
  • Fluency in Microsoft365 applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams) 
  • Demonstrates a high level of communication skills - communicating appropriately and timely to essential parties and escalating when needed 
  • Knowledge of state and federal regulatory standards including Joint Commission, USP <795>, USP <797>, USP <800>, North Carolina Board of Pharmacy standards, and the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services standards

● High school diploma or GED. Completion of an academic pharmacy technician training program preferred.
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
● Registration with the NC Board of Pharmacy. ·CPhT from PTCB or ExCPT from NHA required

● Three years of pharmacy technician experience required or two years of pharmacy technician experience and two years of supervisory experience in related or unrelated field.
