The Communication Specialist II provides the culturally sensitive marketing and communications needs of UNC Health System Equity and Inclusion Department. The position assists with writing publications, developing media and marketing communications, and supporting public relations activities. The position is responsible for the implementation of communications supporting Equity & Inclusion programs, initiatives, and projects. 

Description of Job Responsibilities:

• Develops an inclusive communications strategy and plan, controlling for bias and language. 
• Carries out the plans made for special Equity and Inclusion events such as cultural events, community health fairs, screenings, etc. 
• Develops culturally sensitive marketing communications including direct mail, direct to customer marketing, customer relationships and database marketing. 
• Writes and helps photographers/videographers, in the preparation of certain publications such as brochures, booklets, teammate and special constituent newsletters and videos. 
• Promotes and markets activities involving Equity and Inclusion: conferences, training, media, speaker series, cultural events and celebrations. 
• Carries out community relations activities involving Equity and Inclusion education programs, health classes, and business expos and is a liaison with groups such as, community-based organizations, etc. 
• Supports internal communications to teammates and medical staff through newsletters, websites, meetings, posters, bulletins, etc. 
• Supports Equity and Inclusion media relations, by helping with the creation of news releases, responding to media inquiries, assisting in the preparation for news conferences, and supporting web and database media relationships. 
• Supports public relations which involve aiding in the planning and execution of persuasive campaigns using paid and public media and other channels and assisting with communications during crisis management. 

Education Requirements:
● Bachelor's degree in Journalism, English, Public Relations, Marketing,  Communications, Health Administration, Public Health or related field.

Professional Experience Requirements:
● Three (3) year of experience in communications, public relations, marketing or related field.  Equity and Inclusion experience preferred. 

Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities Requirements:
● Strong verbal and written communication skills; strong customer service skills. Should have experience working with people from diverse backgrounds Should have completed diversity, implicit bias, social determinants of health or cultural sensitivity training; Or, be willing to complete within the first 3 months of employment.

This position is employed by NC Health (Rex Healthcare, Inc., d/b/a NC Health), a private, fully-owned subsidiary of UNC Health Care System, in a department that provides shared services to operations across UNC Health Care; except that, if you are currently a UNCHCS State employee already working in a designated shared services department, you may remain a UNCHCS State employee if selected for this job.
