Summary:

The System Regional Executive Director – Triangle West position assumes a leadership role in formulating policy and instituting practice models that align patient care, education, and research for the assigned hospitals. This position is responsible for the overall management and growth of the pharmacy departments within the Pharmacy Triangle West Region: UNC Hospitals (UNC Medical Center, UNC Hillsborough, Wakebrook, and associated infusion centers/clinics), UNC Chatham, and UNC Rockingham. The System Regional Executive Director anticipates and recognizes the evolving factors that affect current/future needs, and directs the development of strategies to support future growth of pharmacy services.

Responsibilities:
1. Pharmacy Services – Provides strategic guidance and direction for the provision of Pharmacy Services by planning and executing short and long-term strategic plans within the context of regional and organization-wide strategies and objectives. Organizes, manages, assesses, reports, and monitors cost effective Pharmacy Services to ensure optimal financial and operational performance; Optimizes revenue generation through the development, administration, and monitoring of revenue, capital, and operating budgets in accordance with regional targets. Manages areas of responsibility within budget authority. Maintains an on-going process to identify, evaluate, and implement cost-restructuring activities. Establishes, implements, and evaluates effective organizational structures, departmental policies, and personnel management practices to achieve effective supervision of pharmacy staff region-wide. Embraces and promotes a Culture of Safety and prioritizes medication safety in all pharmacy responsibilities. Develops and builds upon the Partnership in Patient Care with the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy to deliver excellence in education. Supports and develops high-quality research programs across the region. Ensures the recruitment, training and retention of motivated, high performing, competent management, professional, and technical staff. Provides support and oversight for an innovative and forward-thinking approach to clinical care provision. Develops and advocates for clinical practice models that support high-level patient care and achievement in the areas of scholarship, research, and education. As a function of this, the individual maintains a strong culture of education through execution of a world-class residency training program and an integrated and substantial commitment to the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy. The individual will have the opportunity to have a faculty appointment and leadership involvement within the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy. This position requires a significant on-site presence at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill, NC.

Qualifications

Education Requirements:
● Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy required. Master’s degree in Pharmacy, Health Services, Business Administration, or related field is strongly preferred. Residency training preferred.
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
● Eligible for licensure as a Registered Pharmacist in NC. Licensure from NC Board of Pharmacy required within 6 months of orientation date or sooner if required for operations.
Professional Experience Requirements:
● Ten years of pharmacist experience or equivalent, of which seven years must be management experience in pharmacy; proven management skills, including program planning and development, project management, finance, performance, quality and/or human resource management. Prior leadership in Pharmacy budgeting/finance reporting, and in human resources programs is preferred.
