Summary:
UNC Health is seeking exceptional candidates to join our UNC Health Enterprises team to drive innovation, transformation and business diversification efforts of the organization. For this role, we are looking for candidates who are passionate about transforming a leading academic health system to position it for long-term success. You will bring creative and forward-thinking solutions to tackle today's most pressing health care issues and partner with thought leaders across the organization to develop novel solutions and new investment opportunities.

The Health Enterprises department houses our Center for Health Innovation and acts as an internal consulting group focused on accelerating innovation across UNC Health while also developing a portfolio of new businesses and strategic partnerships. The Health Enterprises team is part of UNC Health’s Transformation Division (TRX for short). 

Specifically, the Senior Innovation Consultant will: 

  • Work directly with internal and external stakeholders to generate and develop ideas for disruptive innovations and new business opportunities 
  • Partner across system functions to support innovation solutions that address high-level system needs and capitalize on innovations that are already existing within the system 
  • Interact regularly with key system leaders 
  • Develop project plans and manage project teams to ensure deliverables are met 
  • Perform analysis and synthesize findings to articulate important business insights and recommendations 
  • Develop data books and pitch decks for internal and external audiences 
  • Understand and provide thought leadership on innovation trends and external opportunities in/out of the industry or region 
  • Engage multi-disciplinary internal and external advisors and experts to support projects and programmatic work including clinical, legal, technology, data/analytics, health care operations, and other expertise based on project needs 
  • Support presentations to the Board, internal committees, and other leadership groups in support of ongoing activities 

Responsibilities:

  1. Communication and Building Relationships - Acts as a key liaison between executives, hospital administrators, clinical leaders, and external partners and ensures a tight linkage between the organization's efforts and its strategic goals. Serves as a key champion of the organization's strategic priorities to internal constituents through formal and informal communications.
  2. Financial and business planning - Provides analytical and strategy support for the evaluation of strategic opportunities. Performs analytics, provides business insight into implications of findings, develops business plans, and serves as a key champion for recommended opportunities. 
  3. Project management - Provides project leadership for strategic initiatives. Defines projects, develops project plans, and sets priorities for working teams. Uses foresight to keep projects focused and on track. Plans and facilitates meetings. 
  4. Strategic planning - Provides analytical support for the strategic planning process including evaluating environmental trends, assessing core capabilities, competitor profiling, and completing gap analyses. Synthesizes findings to derive important business insights. 

Education Requirements:

  • Master's degree or Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate discipline.

Professional Experience Requirements:

  • If a Master's degree: Three (3) years of relevant experience (e.g., finance, banking, business development, private equity, strategy or consulting) or one (1) year at a top tier consulting firm with one (1) year of relevant experience.
  • If a Bachelor's degree: Four (4) years of relevant experience (e.g., finance, banking, business development, private equity, strategy or consulting) or two (2) years at a top tier consulting firm.

Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities Requirements:

  • Excellent critical thinking, problem solving, relationship building and communication skills. Ability to function with limited guidance and be comfortable working on projects alone or leading more junior team members.
