Summary:
The University of North Carolina Medical Center (UNCMC) Department of Pharmacy is seeking a highly-motivated individual to serve as the Clinical Manager of Pharmacy Supply Chain for the Acute Care Pharmacy Operations (ACPO) team. This manager serves as an authoritative resource on supply chain management and maintains financial oversight over pharmaceutical costs. Responsibilities include shared oversight of Pharmacy purchasing including controlled substance medication procurement, inventory management, and high-cost drug utilization. This manager will oversee the drug shortage management efforts of the acute care pharmacy team and serve as the primary manager liaison with the UNC Health Shared Services Center Drug Shortage Pharmacists and Purchasing Agents.

The Clinical Manager of Pharmacy Supply Chain will report to the UNCMC Assistant Director of Acute Care Pharmacy Operations and supervise five direct reports comprised of two storeroom technicians and three controlled substance technician specialists. 

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct routine review of all line items of inpatient pharmacy inventory, manage dynamic inventory levels; and minimize the impact of drug shortages on direct patient care. 
  • Co-lead weekly drug shortage management calls with the UNC Health Triangle West Pharmacy leadership team. 
  • Provide oversight to the receiving, procurement and distribution of controlled substances throughout the UNC Medical Center and associated ambulatory care areas. 
  • Collaborate with the UNC Health Controlled Substance Assessment Team to support drug diversion prevention efforts. 
  • Serve as the UNC Medical Center Vaccine and COVID Therapeutics Coordinator for the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services. 
  • Effectively and continually maintain open lines of communication with management, staff, and nurses/providers to facilitate the flow of information regarding new product go-lives and drug shortages. 
  • Utilize drug inventory management software, Orbital Rx, to share weekly departmental shortage communications and related clinical mitigation strategies. 
  • Provide oversight to the development and implementation of Pharmacy Services goals and objectives, policies, procedures, and budgets as they relate to Supply Chain. 
  • Provide input for the development of effective capital and operating budgets and utilization of resources to manage pharmaceutical costs. 
  • Maintain knowledge of, and expertise in, leading edge developments and innovative approaches to pharmacy supply chain management by participation in ongoing independent study, education-related professional activities, and affiliations. 
  • Provide oversight to or lead committees, task forces, and performance improvement teams as needed. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Completion of a Post-Graduate Year One (PGY1) Pharmacy Practice Residency
  •  2-3 years of relevant supply chain experience

● Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy.
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
● Eligible for licensure as a Registered Pharmacist in NC. Licensure from NC Board of Pharmacy required within 6 months of orientation date or sooner if required for operations.
Professional Experience Requirements:
● Three years pharmacist experience or equivalent required.
