Summary:

UNC Health is seeking a highly motivated Business Intelligence Analyst (BIA) to provide insight-driven clinical, operational and patient experience analyses to enhance and inform organizational decision-making & assessment of patient experience solutions, programs and services. The BIA for the system Office of Patient Experience will address on-going reporting & analytics needs, as well as handle ad hoc reporting & analytics requests. This position’s responsibilities include analytics, display of data in user-friendly formats, scorecard and dashboard development and maintenance, project management for key initiatives and communications. The ideal candidate will demonstrate passion for care transformation and a level of curiosity to better understand impacts on the patient experience.

The Business Intelligence Analyst (BIA) has basic proficiency in SQL and data visualization, with the ability to learn on the job. The BIA has experience in stakeholder requirements gathering and presentation skills. The primary responsibilities for the BIA include building dashboards, reporting, and trusted analytics content that is consumed by other analysts or stakeholders. 

Responsibilities:

  1. Communication and relationships: The BIA acts as a key Business Intelligence & Analytics liaison between enterprise/entity partners and leaders, ISD and other stakeholders. They ensure a tight linkage between the Office of Patient Experience’s efforts and the organizational goals. Gathers input from others and synthesizes information across multiples sources. They serve as a guide for the organization's patient experience business intelligence priorities to internal constituents through formal and informal communications. The BIA develops concise, insightful, and politically savvy communications. These are often in PowerPoint, but also in email and verbally via committee meetings, staff meetings, and working sessions. 
  2. Dashboard and scorecard development: The BIA develops effective key performance indicators, management dashboards and balanced scorecards that provide enhanced insight and improve organizational decision-making. Data is displayed in a meaningful way to convey concise, easy to understand information for all patient experience solutions, programs and services. 
  3. Healthcare analytics: The BIA provides healthcare analytics support to generate insights for patient experience solutions, programs and services that can be transformed into action and include a broad set of tools, processes, technologies, and stakeholders for collecting, integrating, accessing, and analyzing information. Working with peers and others, they will continually evaluate data needs, assist with efforts to collect data, report data, analyze data and improve programs. Develops and provides meaningful reports and analysis for health care system entities. Addresses ad hoc requests for data. 
  4. Project management: The BIA provides effective project management to clearly define projects, develop project plans, and develop analytics to inform teams and guide prioritization. Understands project management framework and work planning. 5. Continual Learning: Keeps abreast of external program metrics including frameworks for patient experience data reporting and requirements as they are developing.

● Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate discipline.
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
● No licensure or certification required.
Professional Experience Requirements:
● If Bachelor's degree in general field, requires three (3) years of experience
● If Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM field (i.e. Engineering, Math, Computer Science, Analytics, etc.), requires one (1) year of experience
● If Master's degree, requires one (1) year of experience
● If Associate's degree, requires nine (9) years of experience
● If High School degree, requires eleven (11) years of experience

Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities Requirements:

BI Technical: Proficiency of BI data and query tools and Tableau. Self-directed insightful analytics and synthesis. Advanced Excel skills. Broad knowledge of data warehouses, data marts and business intelligence solutions (previous experience with SQL, Business Objects, decision support systems, Epic or Clarity Report development a plus). 

Ideas and Impact: Distill insight from analysis. Go beyond obvious. Prioritize analyses. Use clear logic to design and sanity check analysis. Demonstrate understanding of client problem and need analysis. Perform accurate analysis. 

Project Management: Majority of projects can act with independence and self-direction. Manage project and team expectations. Ask for help when needed. Understand project management framework and work planning. 

Organizational Influence: Project self-assurance and establish credibility. Use concise and effective written communication. Write effective slides. Contribute valuable well-timed comments in team meetings. Actively listen to others. 

Customer Service: Show business sense in approach to customers. Show sensitivity and commitment to customers. Be highly responsive. Maintain confidentiality. Build strong relationships with internal groups. Patient Experience data experience a plus.
