Summary:

This position provides nurse triage, clinical assessment and support for pediatric and adult patients exhibiting urgent, acute or chronic symptoms as a Registered Nurse team member of the UNC Clinical Contact Center. The UNC Clinical Contact Center provides 24 hour telephonic patient care as a Shared Services department serving independent and UNC Health entities including UNC Physicians Network and UNC Medical Center Primary Care as well as specialty practices along with a few external rural primary care practices.

Position requirements include:

• Must have superior nursing skills, a strong and diverse clinical knowledge base, and the ability to deliver excellent patient counseling and education.
• The ability to make sound clinical judgements using set Telephone Triage Guidelines and UNC Clinical Contact Center (HealthLink) Policies, while applying critical nursing skills quickly and efficiently, simultaneously documenting patient assessments in an EPIC based triage application.
• Excellent communication skills are essential and must include ability to translate patient symptoms and complaints quickly into a comprehensive situation based assessment that results in an efficient and safe care disposition.
• Strong computer skills are essential. Necessary to have the ability to utilize multiple phone, meeting, resource, and documenting applications while using a complex dual monitor workstation.
• Must be able to quickly adapt to frequent workflow changes and work efficiently on both an individual basis and within a team.
• This complex, high risk nursing position requires working on a recorded triage line for RN and Patient safety.
• A minimum of five years adult inpatient nursing experience including one year of pediatric nursing experience is preferred.

Education Requirements:
● Graduation from a school of professional nursing.
● If hired after January 6, 2014, must be enrolled within four years of employment, and obtain a Bachelor's degree with a major in Nursing or a Master's degree with a major in Nursing within seven years of employment date.
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
● Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of North Carolina.
● Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification
Professional Experience Requirements:
● A minimum of five years adult inpatient nursing experience including one year of pediatric nursing experience is preferred.
