For the Director of Outpatient Surgery Center role, we are looking for a candidate that is energetic, eager to create strong relationships with their team, and has a strong growth mindset.

Responsible for directing, coordinating and controlling all aspects of the operating functions, processes, and staff of the facility while demonstrating the primary goal of efficiently providing surgical services that exceed customer expectations and improve clinical and financial operations. Responsible for 24 hour a day, seven days a week responsibility for staffing and problem resolution. Consults with staff, physicians, and other nursing units on nursing problems and interpretation of facility policies and procedures to ensure that patient needs are met.
Maintains an environment of safety for patients, self and others in collaboration with the Governing Board and other management, the Executive Director is responsible for developing and articulating the vision for the Center and engaging leadership in refining that vision and its contribution to the Center’s mission. Provides overall management of the Partnership as outlined in the Operating or Limited Partnership Agreement and Bylaws as applicable. Determines the qualifications and competence of personnel. Leads discussion/presentation during Weekly/Monthly Operations Review call with Management team. Develops, monitors and controls the staffing needs, operations budget and capital budget. Demonstrates compliance with all budgetary and fiscal goals. Closely monitors variations in the financial performance of the facility to avoid cash flow problems. Develops, monitors and controls the purchasing plan to stay within the proposed budget and maintain compliance with group purchasing initiatives. Ensure compliance with government regulatory agencies and accrediting bodies. Ensure compliance with AAAHC and other regulatory agencies. Ensures compliance with policy and procedures as related to internal controls. Develops and ensures compliance with appropriate departmental policy and procedure manuals for use by the staff. Negotiates and controls all external contracts, such as those with physicians, ancillary services, plant maintenance and purchasing agreements. Establishes pricing for procedures based on cost analysis and local market standards. Actively participates in the Center’s Administrative Committees including but not limited to the Committee of the Whole, Medical Executive Committee, and Governing Board. Distributes information from each of these committees to ensure a smooth flow of information.
Serves as a member of the Medical Executive Committee and presents and assists in proposing strategies, initiatives and policies for Governing Board review/approval. Ensures that all Governing Board decisions and actions are properly interpreted and administered by Center leadership and management. Fosters positive work relationships among all departments of the facility and acts as liaison between Partners, Caldwell UNC and the facility. Advocates and ensures participation in integration activities across divisions and departments, focused on the long-term Center goals and objectives. Establishes effective working partnerships with physicians. Measures physician satisfaction with Center services. Reviews new regulations for updates needed in facility policies and procedures/standards. Develops standards of care and performance for services provided and implements a mechanism for the ongoing evaluation and improvement of performance standards. Develops plans for additional services and programs. Completes financial feasibility and analysis of proposed services/programs. Analyzes operating performance and results of the Center and initiates corrective actions as necessary.
Personnel Administration: Hold at least monthly staff meeting outlining goals and priorities of the facility. Manage exempt and non-exempt employees in accordance with the facility policies utilizing sound principles of practice and fairness. Review employee performance as evaluated by their respective managers, ensuring that reviews occur as scheduled or at least annually for each employee. Review and approve the disciplinary action and/or discharge of employees. Evaluates management performance and other staff as designated. Approve the addition or deletion of positions as well as approve applicants for employment in new or vacant positions. Develop employee productivity analysis, and assure efficiency of staff levels through increases or reductions in the work force as necessitated by changes in surgical case volume. Implements a program of job based orientation, training, and ongoing evaluation for all employees. Ensure appropriate management of employee files and records. Provide educational opportunities for professional staff development. Promote the implementation of positive customer relations by the employees and physicians.
Quality Improvement: Develop, evaluate and promote implementation of a continuous quality improvement program. Administer the infection control program and medical staff review of the quality improvement program. Identify and correct quality care issues. Develop statistical indicators to use in evaluating the overall operations and quality of care provided. Serve as a member of the Committee of the Whole.
Medical Relationships: Process the credentialing of practitioners of the facility. Collaborate with the Medical Director in the review and revision of the Medical Staff Bylaws and Rules and Regulations on an annual basis. Collaborate with the Medical Director and serve as a liaison in problem areas with the medical staff. Promote positive relationships between employees and practitioners. Develop a system whereby physicians’ needs and their patients’ needs are defined in order to determine the proper mix of services and efficiencies.
Physical Plant: In general, ensure that the facility is clean, neat, professional, well maintained and conveys a feeling of confidence to our patients, their families and our physician customers. Identify and approve plant improvements and repairs. Promote a physical plant that is safe and aesthetically appealing. Develop appropriate record keeping is maintained and incidents reported relative to the emergency generator, utilities, security, environment and emergency preparedness drills.
Personal Development and Professionalism: Identify areas that require additional reinforcement through education, consultation, or practicum. Follow the facility’s professional conduct and dress code policy. Maintain patient, physician, and employee privacy and confidentiality per policy. Communicate effectively and courteously with visitors, physicians and their office staffs, patients and employees. Looks for ways to continually improve work methods that will benefit patients, physicians, and coworkers; respects coworkers and works cooperatively as a team to improve patient care/services excellence; avoids all contact with patient information that does not involve role at the center; practices good personal hygiene; including keeping nails trimmed; identifies the center, department and self when answering outside calls.
● Bachelor's Degree in related field
● Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in N.C. by the Board of Nursing.
Professional Experience Requirements:
● Requires five (5) years of applicable experience in a Surgery Center (Ambulatory experience strongly preferred) and three (3) years of experience in the outpatient healthcare market managing a freestanding Ambulatory Surgery Center desired.
