Description

Summary:
Provides direction and supervision to the interpreters. Plans and coordinates work schedules and daily workload as well provide performance counseling. Responsible for translation and/or content management. May provide interpretation services in special circumstances.
Responsibilities:
1. Communication- Composes departmental emails for day-to-day communication. Communicates with hospital staff regarding needs or concerns on behalf of department with guidance from the Director. Negotiates with physicians/clinic management when their needs are outside of the realm of our usual services.
2. Content Management- Maintains Interpreter Services intranet page. Attends content manager meetings in order to stay up to date on technology and standards. Updates web content in a timely manner. Creates new content as needed. Creates and/or posts tools for interpreters and hospital staff.
3. Human Resource Management- Effectively manages human resources. Creates an environment conducive to recruiting and retaining staff. Applies organizational policy and procedures in hiring, promoting, transferring and terminating staff. Provides staff with annual performance feedback and opportunity to set professional goals. Reviews timecards for accuracy and makes necessary edits.
4. Interpretation- Interprets for special cases including employee-supervisor conferences with Spanish-speaking hospital employees. Provides telephonic and video interpretation for off-campus locations. Provides face-to-face interpretation whenever needed. Assist on the role of Spanish interpreter/ Cultural Broker and patient advocate to the Complex Case Manager/ Social Worker for the Catastrophic Cases.
5. Scheduling- Creates scheduling templates and assumes primary responsibility for ensuring coverage 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Updates schedule to reflect interpreters? leave requests, call outs, shift changes, education time, etc. Reviews all leave requests to ensure adequate coverage. Schedules staff meetings in a way that will be least disruptive to interpretation services as possible and assigns interpreters to session of staff meetings.
6. Technology- Serve as the main administrator and technical support for Servicehub for all UNCH customers. Provide training to new employees on the use of Servicehub. Upgrade equipment and software as needed. Continue to research and develop ways to improve our video/telephonic and face to face interactions with both internal and external customers. Assist department's educator with Cyracom information as needed.
7. Translation Management- Manages the translation procedure including prioritization and assignment. Manages contract translators. Reviews translations of vital documents to be used house-wide and communicates with applicable departments in regards to printing and distribution. Reviews proofs of electronic documents for ISD. Consults with Legal department as necessary when consents or forms are authenticated in the medical record. Maintains translation database and email account and coordinates with ISD on size. Assumes day-to-day management of translations in the absence of the translation coordinator.

Professional Experience Requirements:
● If Bachelor's degree, five (5) years of medical interpreting or relevant experience in a health care environment.If Associate's degree, nine (9) years of medical interpreting or relevant experience in health care environment.If High School diploma, thirteen (13) years of of medical interpreting or relevant experience in health care environment.
