Surgical Support Services seeks a Sterile Processing Educator to join their fast pace department.

Requirements
● Associate’s degree required.
● Sterile Processing Certification required.
● Three (3) years of SPD experience including at lest one year in a senior role serving as a preceptor.

The Perioperative Services Division includes perioperative, procedural, and hospital support departments. We provide a comprehensive approach to care for our patients and their families throughout their stay. In 2020 there were approximately 37,275 cases performed in our operating rooms. We are proud to be on the cutting edge of technology for a number of surgical procedures, including use of the Xi and Si da Vinci® robotic system, cochlear implants, solid organ transplants, bariatric procedures, pediatric open-heart surgeries, and Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC) just to name a few. Our outstanding team members provide care to all patient ages and demographics with the highest level of skill, efficiency, and compassion.

The perioperative departments are located in five sites, Educator will be covering all five sites: UNC Medical Center, UNC Children's Hospital, Ambulatory Surgical Center, North Chapel Hill Surgical Clinic and UNC Hillsborough.

This is a 40 hour a week, and this position qualifies for a generous State benefit package.

Summary:
Coordinates orientation, staff development and continuing education for Sterile Processing Department.


Responsibilities:
1. Assists staff in design and implementation of SPD performance improvement projects.
2. Provides education to staff on regulatory standards and compliance, current sterile processing practice issues, and safety standards.
3. Maintains and updates all orientation manuals and skills checklists.
4. Contributes to sterile processing policy development.
5. Creates individualized training plan for all new employees. Conducts weekly assessments of new employees and adjusts orientation training schedule as needed.
6. Assesses competency of preceptors to ensure they have the knowledge and skill to assist with orientation of new employees.
7. Coordinates in-service schedule for new instruments, continuing education, etc.
