Summary:
Operates angiographic
equipment to make quality radiographs on designated portions of the body under the direct order
of a physician and in accordance with radiation safety procedures. Accomplishes patient
care in a timely, professional, efficient and safe manner. Assists radiologists in all
aspects of angiography.
Responsibilities:
The technologist assesses patient’s physiological/psychological condition and prepares the patient physically and emotionally for medical procedures, treatments or diagnostic tests. Performs ongoing patient assessment during procedure. Provides general care to all patients undergoing angiography procedures to ensure patient health, safety and well being. Obtains patient’s consent according to protocol. Responds to patient’s questions regarding procedures, preparation, aftercare, etc. in a professional and knowledgeable manner.
Operates radiation producing equipment effectively and safely to produce high quality images used in the diagnosis of diseases. Ability to anticipate the needs of the radiologist or performing physician.
Prepares necessary supplies and/or sets up equipment to prepare for scheduled procedures.
Applies arterial and venous pressure as directed by the Radiologist or performing physician.
Follows and adheres to safety standards. Adheres to patient confidentiality. Ensures efficiency and proper functioning of equipment by maintaining and leaning equipment according to procedure. Knowledgeably operates the vascular equipment and has the ability to troubleshoot when problems arise.
Plans, monitors and controls inventory levels in order to meet the demands of daily workload.
Provide instructions and consultations to healthcare personnel and student technologists to promote and improve the quality of patient care.
Other information:
Education Requirements:
● Registry or certification in an Allied Health field such as Cardiovascular Technology, Respiratory Therapy, Paramedic or certificate of completion from CVT program required. Without benefit of degree, equivalent on the job training and experience of at least 2 years duration may be acceptable.
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
● Appropriate registry or certification in Cardiovascular Technology, Respiratory Therapy, Paramedic, or CVT required.
● Current BLS certification required and ACLS certification required within six (6) months of employment.
Professional Experience Requirements:
● At least 2 years of Cath Lab experience, cardiac nursing, special procedures, or respiratory therapy with cardiac/intensive care patients.
