Summary:
This position is responsible for providing strategic and executional oversight
in the development and implementation of an integrated marketing and
communications go-to-market roadmap for Oncology and leading a team, planning, developing,
implementing, evaluating and reporting on a comprehensive, integrated and omni-channel
marketing and communications program for UNC Cancer Care/Lineberger. The
Director of Marketing and Communications provides leadership, strategic
direction and day-to-day oversight of internal and external marketing and
communication activities. The Director will work closely with UNC Lineberger
Comprehensive Cancer Center’s Director and leadership team, and leadership of UNC
Health Communications and Marketing team to develop and execute plans aligned
with and in support of the mission and strategic objections of the UNC System
and the UNC School of Medicine. This position will work
with the broader UNC Health Marketing team to establish branding (internal and
external) for UNC Lineberger and UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center.
Responsibilities:
Cultivate and maintain relationships with clinical and research staff to become a subject matter expert on the programs and capabilities of UNC Lineberger and UNC Health Cancer Care.
Raise the UNC Health / Lineberger’s cancer care and research profile in order to help position cancer care to fulfill its business goals, which include: recruiting and retaining its workforce (and students); fundraising to support its research; attracting provider referrals and patients for care and to participate in its clinical trials; supporting its researchers in getting published in high-impact journals, cultivating relationships and building strategic partnerships, among other goals.
Design and implement strategic communications and marketing plans to align with and advance UNC Health Cancer Care/UNC Lineberger business priorities.
Analyze consumer insights, brand preference tracking and in-depth research to identify market opportunities and consumer preferences to support campaign creations.
Support the establishment of a vision for the cancer clinical programs to drive business growth and differentiation in the marketplace.
Set specific campaign performance goals that align with the overall direction and business goals.
Develop and oversee patient/customer journey driven and next best decision campaigns through Salesforce CRM platform.
Think proactively to develop opportunities across the consumer experience journey to cross-sell and promote full continuum services (screenings, prevention, detection, etc.).
Create and disseminate accurate, compelling, timely and effective internal and external communications, content, public relations, and marketing campaigns, strategies and tactics.
Direct UNC Lineberger brand identity and ensure its consistent applicant and growth.
Direct the development and maintenance of the UNC Lineberger website, including content, design, information architecture and functionality, and oversee cancer care content on the UNC Health website.
Lead the growth and management of cancer social media presence across various platforms.
Measure effectiveness of marketing initiatives and recommend optimizations based on analytics and drive implementation.
Lead the cancer communications and marketing team; hire, supervise, train, develop and evaluate team members; assign, review and approve work; set priorities and deadlines; develop and manage communications budget and oversee purchases; obtain and manage team resources.
Education Requirements: Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
Licensure/Certification Requirements: None required.
Professional Experience Requirements: A minimum of eight (8) years major marketing, public relations and/or communications experience in health care or life sciences; Cancer Center experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Requirements: Demonstrated experience in creating, directing and managing content for various multi-media platforms, including website, digital, social media, print, newsletter and email. Experience with an enterprise-level CRM/email marketing software provider (e.g. Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Health Cloud), Marketo, SAP, ZOHO, or Microsoft Dynamics) or a Salesforce Certification. Strong ability to lead a team and develop teammates. Outstanding interpersonal communication skills. Excellent writing skills. Ability to manage time and priorities with diverse responsibilities and multiple stakeholders.
