Summary

Director is responsible for the overall Facility Services Department that includes the following areas: Engineering and Facility Management, Landscaping, Construction, Facility Planning, Energy Management, Safety and Emergency Management, and the Physical Environment Chapters according to the DNV NIAHO Standards.

Job Responsibilities

The Director at UNC Health Southeastern is expected to spend 2/3 of their time working on strategic issues for their areas and 1/3 of their time on operational issues. The responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

- Accountability for results
-Overall accountability for budget for areas of responsibility
- Overall accountability for performance in business unit and the organization
- Should be experts in their area understanding what should happened in their areas in the future
- Develop and implement strategic and business plans
- Responsible for business unit and Physical Environment Chapters according to the DNV NIAHO Standards
- Develop Energy Management Plan and maintain Energy Star Rating
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (ie. Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Explorer) required.
- Demonstrated strong work ethic required.
- Personal transportation and willingness to travel among multiple inpatient/outpatient sites spanning the region required.
- Succession planning - Developing ROI’s on proposals/business plans
- Generating ideas/new initiatives
- Ownership for implementation of initiatives
- Serving as Project Manager
- Monitoring results
- Eliminating and reporting waste/operational efficiencies
- Expand and contract operations
- Market services (responsible for seeing that it occurs)

Qualifications

Minimum Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or related field with a minimum of 10 years of deep and broad knowledge of facilities engineering and management experience in this area with at least 5 years of experience in a maintenance/plant operations function to a best-practice facilities management organization in a healthcare setting. Certification as a Certified Healthcare Facility Manager (CHFM) and/or Certified Healthcare Constructor (CHC) through the American Society for Healthcare Engineering is required.

Preferred: Master’s Degree in the above noted areas or health care administration.

Additional Specialized Knowledge Skills: Ability to provide effective leadership and oversight to the system’s facilities management and plant operations function; to direct a team of managers and skilled maintenance technicians across multiple locations spanning a wide geographic service area; to professionally engineer all ongoing facilities management requirements on a planned, proactive basis and to remain current and compliant with all regulatory and other credentialing agencies and standards.

The successful candidate will also process sufficient experience with effective hospital construction management practices and routines. With the ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, governmental regulations, plans, blueprints and technical specifications.

Ability to develop business plans within Facilities Management for major departmental strategic initiatives and annual performance expectations including return on investment calculations, total-cost-of-ownership determinations, staff and recruitment plans, technological requirements, communication strategies, key metrics for success and timeline management.
Ability to develop both short term and long-term capital planning as it relates to the facilities.
Strong interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from internal and external individuals and groups.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Ability to interpret and apply abstract and concrete variables to problem solving.
Effective interpersonal skills that successfully manage and motivate peers and subordinates, and support interactions.
Knowledge of clinical operating systems and clinical effectiveness.
Knowledge of applicable DNV NIAHO Standards and CMS Standards or regulations.
Ability to adapt to and effectively deploy learn management principles with the department.
