Under direction, performs protective work participating in and supervising a Staff of police and security officers; maintains considerable responsibility in planning and directing a security operations shift. Trains and supervises subordinate personnel; conducts safety and security inspections, identifies potential safety and security problem areas and provides corrective advice. Ensures all directives, new instructions, and general information form the Director is communicated to all shift personnel; and performs other duties as required.
Provides a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, employees, volunteers, medical staff, and the general public by responding to emergency situations, supervising police and security personnel, and maintaining law and order.
• EDUCATION
o High School Diploma or equivalent required, BS preferred.
• EXPERIENCE
o Three years of experience preferred as a sworn law enforcement officer.
• LICENSURE/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION
o A North Carolina driver's license and the North Carolina Department of Justice, Division of Standards and Training, Basic Law Enforcement Training Certification is required.
• OTHER SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
o Communication skills such as active listening, critical thinking and the ability to convey information verbally and in writing are required. Reading and writing skills are required for the documentation of events and daily reports. Experience in the use of a computer with business and medical related software preferred. Comprehensive knowledge of police administration including staff, finances, equipment management and maintenance; effectively operate a variety of communications equipment; and security alarm systems.
• WORK ENVIRONMENT
o Climate controlled environment inside and exposure to outside weather conditions and occasionally requires exposure to extreme hot and cold temperature fluctuations; and exposure to bloodborne pathogens which may require the wearing of specialized personal protective equipment.
• PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
o Work is active with a combination of office work and patrolling. Visual acuity required for manipulating CCTV video surveillance system, fire system, and building access control system. Ability to speak and hear clearly is required for frequent communication with patients, visitors, employees, volunteers, and medical staff; required to walk or stand for extended periods of time climbing stairs. The work requires the regular exertion of up to 10 pounds of force, frequent exertion of up to 35 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 100 pounds of force; work regularly requires speaking or hearing and using hands to handle or feel, frequent walking, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, pushing and/or pulling, and lifting; work requires close vision, distance vision, ability to adjust focus, depth perception, color perception, and night vision.
