Description

Summary:
Perform physical therapy treatments and other duties under the direct supervision of the physical therapist or physical therapy assistant.
Responsibilities:
Ambulates patients using assistive device and gait patterns established by the physical therapist or physical therapist assistant using gait belt and other guarding techniques to ensure the patient's safety.
Provides exercise treatments to patients according to treatment plans established by the physical therapist or physical therapist assistant. Uses exercise equipment such as kinetron, rehabilitation trainer, ergometric bikes, etc. Monitors patient's response to exercise and alerts therapist of any changes or problems.
Conducts pulmonary rehabilitation exercises using treadmill or ergometric bikes, or other endurance activities while monitoring the patients O2 saturation levels, blood pressure, heart rate, and respiratory rate. Stops activity if patient does not stay within set parameters established in the treatment plan.
Documents patient's activities and response to treatment on the CPT card, exercise card, or other data sheets.
Schedules patient treatment based upon patient assignments from physical therapist or physical therapist assistant. Coordinates treatment times with meal or tube feeding times, aerosol treatment schedules, and other patient tests or procedures for each patient.
Completes charge information and department statistical information using department guidelines.
Precepts technicians to new tasks for which the employee is already competent. Assesses learner's skills and determines when the learner is able to assist with care or when the learner is ready to be observed by a physical therapist or physical therapist assistant for competency testing.
May assist with training less experienced physical therapy technicians.
