Summary:
Under the supervision of the Rehab Services staff, Mobility Technician’s will perform and carry out duties associated with the safe patient handling and mobility program.
Responsibilities:
1. Monitors patient for changes in physical, emotional and psychological condition, reporting observations of changes or behaviors to the nurse and therapy staff.
2. Can assist with patient care activities, including mobility, self-care and oral care.
3. Assists therapists and assistants in performing treatments as needed and in compliance with North Carolina Practice Act and regulatory agencies. Does not change any treatment from the established plan of care unless directed to do so by the licensed staff.
4. Assists with mobility activities (side of bed, up to chair, ambulating).
5. Assists with patient toileting.
6. Turns/positions patients.
7. Talks to and connects with patients/families.
8. Maintains integrity and honesty at all times.
9. Takes initiative in rendering service or responding to needs.
10. Responds rapidly and thoroughly to emergencies or special needs of the assigned patient.
11. Assists with keeping the patient rooms safe, orderly and clean.
12. Participates in a collaborative identification and reporting of patient safety issues by reporting any safety hazards to the nurse and therapy staff.
13. Immediately seeks help from medical professionals when the patient appears in distress or is escalating behaviorally.
14. Follows all emergency procedures.
15. Complies with all hospital policies, regulation, procedures and processes.
16. Follows the organizations Standards of Behavior, Carolina Care Behavioral Expectations, Code of Conduct, Corporate Compliance and HIPPA; including privacy of all confidential protected health information by disclosing only information which is necessary to perform the functions of the job.
17. Completes competencies as assigned.
18. Actively participates in staff meetings and on committees as requested.
19. Applies knowledge of principles of standard precautions. Routinely and consistently uses PPE to avoid risk of exposure to self and others.
Other information:
Education
High school graduate or equivalent required.
Licensure/Certification
Current BLS certification required.
Experience
Prior experience with patient care preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to understand how to operate patient care and lifting equipment.
• Ability to accurately describe patient's condition and reaction to treatment to supervising assistant, therapist, or nurse.
• Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide a safe, age specific patient environment.
• Able to fluently read, write and effectively communicate in English.
• Practices good hygiene and is neat in personal appearance.
• Able to meet the physical requirements of the job.
Valid NC Driver’s License: No
If driving a Wayne UNC Vehicle, must be 21 years old and MVR must be approved by Risk Management.
