Summary:
The Clinical Education Specialist is an advanced level RN position in clinical education that works to address staff educational needs within a specialty practice area, service and/or across the organization. Facilitates the professional development of licensed and unlicensed employees to enhance professional competency including (but not limited to) educational assessment, planning and outcome evaluation. Serves as subject matter expert in a lead capacity for house-wide initiatives, including those in conjunction with hospital accreditation. Work may be performed collaboratively for multiple disciplines across the continuum of care or for a specific patient population or service area.


Responsibilities:
o Assist with orientation of all clinical staff, including providers, to the electronic health record and the required documentation. Travels to multiple practices for follow up with newly oriented staff.
o Evaluates and assesses clinical competencies for all clinical staff; provides instruction to staff for competency development. Completes appropriate forms as required.
o Demonstrates professional leadership in nursing practice and serves as a role model to staff members providing clinical care, including RNs, LPNs, and CMAs. Engages in other projects and functions upon request. Obtain ISO Auditor training and LEAN Yellow Belt.
o Maintains/updates training manuals, promoting standardized, quality care. Attends and participates in practice clinical staff meetings as requested by the practice manager; presents standardized materials to clinical staff and/or managers as necessary. Functions as a staff nurse when training and/or other initiatives are not in progress, or when directed.
o Conducts and/or coordinates access to educational programs for all clinical staff as needed. Assess, plan, implement and evaluate educational needs of staff within practices. Manages CLIA certificates/compliance, Point of Care testing processes, training and lab proficiency testing requirements as appropriate.

Qualifications

Hired candidates will be expected to attain certification as an American Heart Association (AHA) Instructor for Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).

Required
• Must be licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of North Carolina or one of compact states.
• Bachelor's degree required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Five (5) years of experience working in a critical care setting as a registered nurse.

Preferred
• Masters degree in nursing, education or related field highly preferred.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
• Recent educator experience.
