Summary:

The Occupational Health Nurse provides nursing services on-site to local businesses and industries based on individual client needs. This client is located in Grifton, NC. 

Services include vaccinations, health screenings, referrals to providers, and health and safety education. The Occupational Health Nurse also triages injuries and provides case management for workers’ compensation cases to assist with returning the employee back to work in a timely manner. Promotes a safe workplace environment with an overall goal of decreasing workplace illnesses and injuries.


Responsibilities:
1. Develops, implements, and presents corporate client occupational health and wellness programs. 

2. Assesses and identifies health issues and high-risk employees through assessment and interview techniques. Provides follow up and referral when indicated. 

3. Coordinates and sets up employee clinic activities for assigned corporate client. 

4. Performs screenings at corporate client worksite for cholesterol, glucose, BMI, drugs, vision etc. Ensures testing equipment is operating properly. Makes appropriate referrals for those with abnormal results. 

5. Coordinates and administers vaccines. 

6. Triages injuries and connects employees with providers as needed. 

7. Recognizes and reacts appropriately to potential occupational emergency situations. 

8. Provides case management for occupational and non-occupational health conditions. 

9. Records and documents information for department and corporate client reports. 

10. Presents and promotes programs/activities to develop a safe and healthy workplace. 

11. Develops collaborative relationships with corporate client management and employees. 

12. Updates Corporate Health Services Manager of schedule, client needs and concerns, and other pertinent information. 

13. Provides corporate clients and department manager with a written summary of program activities monthly and annually. 

14. Offers flexibility to corporate clients in meeting various work schedules. 

15. Acts as a role model and enthusiastically supports the department. 

16. Keeps current in trends and best practices in Occupational Health Nursing. 

17. Completes continuing education and in-service programs to meet regulatory and job requirements as applicable. 

18. Applies knowledge of principles of universal precautions. Routinely uses personal protective equipment and infection control barriers or devices to avoid risk of exposure to self and others.

Education

  • Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing. 

Licensure/ Certification

  • Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of North Carolina required. 

Experience

  • At least 2 years of acute nursing experience, preferably medical/surgical, emergency, or critical care. 
  • Occupational health experience preferred. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Keen interest and considerable knowledge of wellness and health promotion. 

• Considerable knowledge of occupational health procedures and practices. 

• Ability to learn to operate screening equipment and tools. 

• Ability to collaborate and maintain relationships with business/industry contacts, provider office staff, the community at large, supervisors and teammates. 

• Ability to speak effectively in public to small and large audiences. 

• Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills. 

• Ability to work under pressure and perform with minimal supervision. 

• Ability to provide own transportation to various work locations. 

• Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English. 

• Proficient with MS Office and able to learn new software rapidly.
