Become part of an inclusive organization with over 40,000 diverse employees, whose mission is to improve the health and well-being of the unique communities we serve.
This certified Athletic Trainer position, while employed by UNC Health Nash, supports the UNC Health Nash Sports Medicine Program, a collaboration which exists to serve the student athletes of Nash County Public Schools.
The athletic trainer has an atypical work schedule, as the position must be available on a scheduled basis for varsity and junior varsity athletic activities as coordinated by the Nash County Public Schools Athletic Director. These activities include in-school trainings, after-school practices, home games, responding to injuries and illness, and assisting in educational seminars and similar programs.
The position requires that the applicant possesses the clinical evaluation and educational skills expected of an athletic trainer working in a physician extender role. The athletic trainer is responsible for the following functions regarding athletic injuries prevention, assessment, treatment, and reconditioning as set forth by the NATA Board of certification. The athletic trainer will demonstrate proper taping, strapping, bracing, and fitting of athletic equipment. The athletic trainer will carry out all prescribed treatments and recommendations by the team/program/event physician. This position works as an embedded member in a school system’s athletic program where clinical supervision is limited, but has ready access (by phone) to the overseeing physician as well as a team of local orthopedic providers. The athletic trainer shadows with orthopedic providers at Carolina Regional Orthopedics and UNC Orthopedics at Nash, as time allows, for purposes of enhancing education and experience for the benefit of the program.
