Job Summary:

The Director of Cardiovascular & Pulmonary Services directs the technical and clinical activities of the departments, consistent with hospital mission, and ensures optimal/quality patient care is carried out in accordance with policies and procedures consistent with patient age. 

Description of Job Responsibilities:

  1. Provides leadership and direction to the Cardiology and Respiratory Care departments.
  2. Attends and participates in scheduled meetings to include leadership meetings, quality improvement activities and policy development.
  3. Develops schedules for the departments.
  4. Provides instruction for in-service education and provides individualized education to employees in need of specific instruction.
  5. Develops and implements department policies and procedures consistent with patient age and ensures that department policies and procedures are kept current and are followed consistently.
  6. Accepts responsibility for appropriate staffing on all shifts and reviews staffing data for appropriateness to meet patient care needs.
  7. Communicates and collaborates with appropriate disciplines any problems in meeting patient care staffing requirements.
  8. Reviews employees by performance appraisals established by the hospital and performs/reviews all employee evaluations.
  9. Counsels with employees as needed.
  10. Maintains records of all employee incident/counseling reports.
  11. Provides primary patient care as needed.
  12. Maintains updated skills in clinical practice area.
  13. Reviews care delivered by staff based on department procedures and reviews patients for appropriateness and effectiveness
  14. Communicates and collaborates with appropriate disciplines regarding care delivered.
  15. Documents care reviews for QA utilization and follows up on any problems identified.
  16. Reviews occurrences of equipment breakage and educates staff to correct equipment handling.
  17. Ensures that staff has the equipment necessary to perform their job duties.
  18. Communicates and collaborates with appropriate disciplines on selection of equipment for purchase.
  19. Follows exposure control plans.
  20. Shows proficient use of EMR computer system.
  21. Implements hospital mission and vision in department and hospital.
  22. Demonstrates knowledge of how to report a violation of the Legal Compliance Program and reports any compliance issues according to the program’s requirements.
  23. Knowledgeable of the Compliance Program and adheres to its policies.
  24. Completes clinical competencies and educational activities.
  25. Assists with preparation and continued readiness for all accreditation and inspection agencies.

Education Requirements:

Licensure/Certification Requirements:

  • Registered by the National Board of Respiratory Care and current North Carolina licensure.
  • Certified in Basic Cardiac Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support.

Professional Experience Requirements:

  • At least two (2) years experience as Respiratory Care Director or Respiratory Care Instructor.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Requirements:

  • Knowledge of clinical protocols and practice management requirements in assigned areas.
  • Ability to analyze operational data and employ approved management techniques to obtain maximum effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Ability to coordinate effectively various departmental functions and activities from maximum cooperation and efficiency.
  • Ability to direct, instruct and advise staff in the approved methods, procedures, and practices employed in effective health care administration.
  • Ability to receive and effectively react to day-to-day problems presented by staff and others.
  • Ability to interpret established policies into operating procedures which implement department programs.
  • Ability to conduct meetings concerning a wide variety of matters.
  • Ability to utilize strong communication skills and effectively articulate and listen through an interactive style of leadership.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with corporation staff.
  • Ability to evaluate concerns of the public and translate public concerns into effective operations procedures.
