Summary:
The Clinical Administrator is the primary coordinator of patient and teammate services on the assigned shift. The Clinical Administrator assumes delegated administrative responsibilities and authority for all hospital departments during evenings, nights, weekends and holidays. He/she participates with the management team in the ongoing management of patient care and teammate development activities.
Responsibilities:
1. Assesses patient care unit staffing needs and mentors teammates to make appropriate adjustments among units while ensuring appropriate bed assignments. Attention to patient status and utilization review concepts will be utilized during this process.
2. Serves as a clinical resource by:
a. Assisting teammates in solving patient care problems;
b. Providing guidance in interpreting and execution of hospital policies;
c. Providing direct patient care as needed.
3. Functions as the chief administrative representative for evenings, nights, weekends and holidays, while collaborating with the Executive on call and unit specific management.
4. Evaluates the standard of nursing care provided on evenings, nights, weekends and holidays and gives feedback on teammate performance as necessary. Counsels teammates concerning performance, unacceptable behaviors or interpersonal conflicts as needed while keeping appropriate management informed.
5. Guides the professional growth of others through role modeling, coaching and/or mentoring.
6. Responds appropriately in emergencies.
7. Keeps appropriate leaders informed of any issues, concerns or problems.
8. Promotes a safe, clean environment.
9. Is flexible and available to work as needed to ensure coverage for the area.
10. Participates in performance improvement activities, departmental committees and other operational projects as assigned.
11. Remains calm and works effectively in stressful situations, such as death and dying, census fluctuations, adverse weather, etc. Responds appropriately in emergency situations.
12. Presents and promotes a professional demeanor at all times, establishes high standards of customer service, supports responsibility, pride, and teamwork, remains calm under pressure, and offers reasonable solutions for problems.
13. Demonstrates appropriate interaction with and provides recommended care and services to all patients.
14. Ensures the delivery of age appropriate, culturally sensitive, and ethical care for patients.
15. Applies knowledge of principles of standard precautions. Routinely uses PPE to avoid risk of exposure to self and others.

Education
Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized college or university required.
Licensure/Certification
Current Registered Nurse licensure in North Carolina required.
ACLS, PALS, BLS, CPI with Applied Physical required.
Critical care experience desirable.
Experience
Five years’ experience in an acute care setting to include one to two years leadership and/or educational experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Ability to assess the nursing needs of acute and chronically ill patients.
• Ability to perform independently within scope of practice, and to work collaboratively.
• Leadership qualities, e.g., maturity, job knowledge, professionalism, communication skills, etc. to lead, guide and motivate others.
• Good interpersonal and customer service skills.
• Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
• Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English.
• Proficient with EMR, and able to learn new software rapidly.
• Ability to stand, walk and meet the physical requirements of the role for the duration of shift.
Valid NC Driver’s License: No
If driving a Wayne UNC Vehicle, must be 21 years old and MVR must be approved by Risk Management.
