Summary:

Responsible for the management of the Bariatric Surgery
Nutrition Program.  This includes
managing the Bariatric Surgery Supplement Store, management of the Bariatric RD
Team, and managing the full nutrition needs of preoperative and postoperative
bariatric surgery patients at Rex Surgical Specialists


Responsibilities:
Manages the Rex Bariatrics Supplement retail store; reviews and selects supplement options based upon patient nutritional needs and oversees the ordering and daily operations for the store.
Manages vendor relationships to include negotiating pricing and management of all vendor contracts; communicates with vendors to improve product selection and promote development of new products customized for the patient population. Ensures products meet ASMBS and UNC Health Rex standards for nutrition quality.
Monitors and analyzes store sales and formulates pricing policies to ensure revenue goals are met while staying aligned with patient needs.
Manages the branding and marketing of the Rex Bariatrics Supplement Store to include social media, website, and community engagement.
Assesses and educates preoperative and postoperative bariatric surgery patients individually and in groups. Develops nutrition care plans utilizing clinical, biochemical, and socio-economic and psychosocial factors. Communicates with multidisciplinary staff (inpatient and outpatient) regarding any nutrition related issues influencing the overall progress of the bariatric patient; participates in patient care meetings to discuss patient care issues.
Researches, interprets, evaluates and utilizes pertinent research in obesity to develop best practices for Nutrition Program and optimal outcomes for the bariatric patient.
Develops and leads program events, including information sessions, bariatric forums, and support groups as well as grocery store tours and cooking classes.
Leads staff meetings, with regard to program standards, quality and process improvement, and problem solving with patient issues.
Responsible for promoting positive nutrition outcomes to support/maintain Centers of Excellence status.
Participates in speaking engagements outside of regular office hours to promote our program and improve obesity outcomes in the community. Speaks at local and regional CME events/RD Conferences and sits on various national boards related to bariatric surgery and weight management.
Manages team of RDs within both bariatric and medical weight loss programs. Mentor, coach, train, and perform evaluations on members of the team. Manage their time and time off requests. Works with HR to address concerns and partners with Talent Acquisition to ensure strong recruitment/selection of RD candidates.
Teaches/precepts weekly/biweekly support groups for patients. Creates and manages the RD schedules for both patients and teaching patient classes.
Communicates key messages to RD team and ensures that they are aware of clinical or office changes made during other weekly/monthly meetings attended. Conducts weekly/monthly meetings to discuss key messages to the RD team. Serves as a liaison between the RDs and the surgical team.
Acts as Treasurer for Bariatric Fund and ensures that patients receive needed assistance with vitamins while working with the UNC Foundation. This includes assisting to promote and increase donations for the Fund.
Co-writes several cookbooks which are presently for sale on our website and in our store for the Bariatric Fund.

Education Requirements:
● Bachelor's degree required.
Master’s in related Dietitian field for new graduates becoming licensed after 1/1/2024.
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
● Currently registered as a Licensed Dietitian in the state of North Carolina.
Professional Experience Requirements:
● Requires a minimum of two (2) years of experience in counseling, behavior modification techniques and group facilitation. Experience working with the bariatric population.
Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities Requirements:
● Requires extensive knowledge in the treatment of obesity and the use of behavioral modalities to effect change.
● Must possess strong interpersonal skills and teaching skills to communicate information to patients and colleagues.
