Summary:

The Director of Pharmacy for Pharmacy and Therapeutics (P&T) and Medication Safety will develop, oversee and maintain high-quality, cost-effective integrated pharmacy programs. The Director will exercise management responsibility in order to meet the needs of patients, physicians, and team members in a manner consistent with UNC Health Care's values and mission statement. This position requires the ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with a wide variety of health professionals. Specific areas of responsibility are not limited to, but will include: UNC Health’s system-wide Pharmacy and Therapeutics; and System-wide Safety programming.

Responsibilities:

1. Scope of Pharmacy Practice - Responsible for directing pharmacy operations, strategies, policies and procedures, budget process, project implementations, human resource management and committee representation. The Director of Pharmacy is responsible for insuring compliance and other regulatory standards, implementing and monitoring financial controls to insure effective utilization of resources through budgeting and analysis of management reports, development of staff and services, as well as organizational performance improvement, quality management, evidence based outcome and setting the communication tone, values and culture of the health system. Collaboration with clinical leadership to develop drug use initiatives and assure appropriate use of pharmaceuticals. The Pharmacy Director will be responsible for the execution and consistent implementation of drug use initiatives and Pharmacy care management initiatives. Collaboration with Patient Safety Leadership to develop quality initiatives, processes and tools. The position is be responsible for the execution and consistent implementation of quality initiatives across all pharmacy practice settings. He or she will also be responsible for ensuring enforcement of all applicable policies, standards and regulations related to Medication Safety, Medication Management and AR&L (Accreditation, Regulatory and Licensing). Collaboration with Pharmacy Informatics personnel to ensure successful implementation and maintenance of technology systems and to contribute to the development of technology innovation. Specifics to this position include: 

• Provides strategic leadership for UNC Health’s system-wide Pharmacy and Therapeutics, and medication safety teams as system services; and drives their expansion and new programming across UNC Health and beyond 
• Partners with key leaders to innovate, develop, and deploy clinical drug use initiatives and approaches that assure appropriate use of pharmaceuticals, while enhancing service, outcomes, and reducing clinical variation 
• Emphasizes cost-effective drug management between the strategic sourcing, Pharmacy and Therapeutics, and Clinical / Operational teams in order to identify and implement revenue enhancement, and/or cost savings opportunities of the Pharmacy enterprise’s drug formulary 
• Leads the pharmacy enterprise in medication-related policy management; which involves develop, maintain, and eliminate (where necessary) system-wide pharmacy policies in partnership with applicable stakeholders.
• Prioritizes quality and safe care delivery for organization; through continuous assessments (including external benchmarking/incorporation of best practices), appropriate use of technology, develop quality initiatives, processes, and plans for sustained performance with a focus on culture of medication safety at UNC Health • Supports the development of dashboards, metrics, and key performance indicators to evaluating and drive decision-making within job scope.

Qualifications

Education Requirements:
● Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy required. Doctor of Pharmacy and/or residency training preferred. Master’s degree in Pharmacy, Health Services, Business Administration, or related field is preferred.
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
● Active pharmacist licensure with the NC Board of Pharmacy or obtainable before initiation of employment.
Professional Experience Requirements:
● Seven years of pharmacist experience or equivalent, of which four years must be of pharmacy supervisory experience; proven management skills, including program planning and development, project management, finance, performance, quality and/or human resource management. PGY2 Health-System Pharmacy Administration & Leadership (HSPAL) residency will count as relevant supervisory experience for Pharmacy leadership positions. Previous experience leading clinical programs and similar programs within an academic or like complex health care system is strongly preferred.
Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities Requirements:
• Strong verbal, written, and presentation skills. • Strong critical thinking and problem skills. • Strong relationship and customer service skills. • Ability to work collaboratively with other health care professionals and lead change. • Is team-oriented, supportive, and cooperative. Ability to continuously re-prioritize, demonstrates flexibility, and processes multiple issues simultaneously. • Ability to drive/travel to multiple facilities/locations as needed.
