Summary:
The Controlled Substance Compliance Analyst will provide dedicated support and structure for the Acute Care Pharmacy Operations teams in the Department of Pharmacy to ensure compliance with all controlled substance regulations. This position will require a high level of expertise and skill in controlled substance workflows and management. This position ia responsible for reviewing internal processes, reviewing audit recommendations from internal auditors and external consultants, providing consistent training of staff, managing pharmacy projects related to controlled substances compliance, and assisting in implementing follow-up items to avoid potential discrepancies and violations of regulations.
Responsibilities:
1. Auditing and Monitoring – Identifies compliance issues through routine audit of controlled substance documentation, including but not limited to, purchasing, selling, dispensing, compounding, administration, and waste documentation. Ensures routine required documentation is in place and timely (i.e. paperwork filed correctly, compare reports completed, inventory completed). Responds and follows up with appropriate documentation to audit findings from both internal auditors and external auditors (e.g., paid consultants, Drug Enforcement Agency, North Carolina Board of Pharmacy, etc.).
2. Process Improvement and Standardization - Identifies and initiates process improvement activities to improve compliance across the Chapel Hill region. Aids in developing and implementing new workflow processes across the Chapel Hill region. Works closely with pharmacy technicians and Pharmacy Technician Supervisors at all locations and the Controlled Substances Assessment Program (CSAP) team at UNCMC
3. Customer Service - Serves as the point of contact for internal pharmacy auditing group, nursing-related requests, and clinic-related requests.
4. Training – Develops training program and serves as primary trainer of controlled substances technicians at 101 Manning Drive and pharmacy technicians at Hillsborough Inpatient Pharmacy, Youth Behavioral Hospital and Chatham Hospital.
5. Professional Development - Stays current with changing controlled substance regulations, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Maintains a working knowledge of job-specific regulations. Routinely reads health care trade articles related to compliance and shares knowledge with others. Seeks out opportunities to grow professional career.

● Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate discipline.
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
● No licensure or certification required.
Professional Experience Requirements:
● Five years of health care compliance, project management, or other directly related experience (e.g., pharmacy technician, pharmacy automation, controlled substances, pharmacy supervisor, etc.).
Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities Requirements:
● Understanding of controlled substance compliance requirements, pharmacy operations, and pharmacy IT systems (Epic, Pyxis, RxAuditor, etc.) is highly desirable.
