Summary:

UNC Therapy Services, the outpatient orthopedic therapy division of the Rehabilitation Services Department at UNC Medical Center, is now accepting applications for a Physical Therapist I. Located at the Ambulatory Care Center in Chapel Hill, NC, this role focuses on delivering comprehensive rehabilitation services to a wide range of patient populations, including the entire spectrum of orthopedic and sports-related injuries, postoperative care, and geriatrics.

In this position, you'll join a collaborative team of six physical therapists and two orthopedic residents working in a dynamic, multi-disciplinary environment. Your role extends to collaborating with our extensive team of outpatient therapy providers, including allied health professionals, nurses, physicians, and advanced practice providers.

As a Physical Therapist, you will be responsible for providing evidence-based evaluations, ongoing assessments, planning, and treatment that span the entire spectrum of dysfunction and disability within the outpatient orthopedic environment. You will engage in one-on-one care with 45-minute evaluations and treatments, ensuring a patient-centered and personalized approach. You will also complete the necessary administrative tasks to facilitate the patient care experience. This position offers enriching opportunities for clinical mentorship, and you will play an active role in teaching and precepting students. We also encourage involvement in continuing education, community outreach, process improvement, and program development.

Ideal candidates should possess exceptional time management, communication, and organizational skills. Prior clinical experience in outpatient orthopedics, while preferred, is not mandatory. Responsibilities:

1. Patient Care: Provide comprehensive and evidence-based rehabilitative care to patients, encompassing patient assessment, evaluation, treatment, planning, and the associated administrative tasks.

2. Diagnostic Testing: Conduct both basic and complex diagnostic tests and evaluations, focusing on the treatment of mobility disorders and related impairments. Utilize a range of testing methods to accurately assess patient needs and treatment options.

3. Education: Provide education and supervision to graduate Physical Therapy students and/or clinical fellows/residents. Develop or contribute to innovative patient care programs and act as a consultative resource for clinicians in your specialty area.

4. Evaluation of Care: Analyze results from diagnostic and therapeutic testing to establish and modify patient goals and treatment programs. Focus on identifying expected patient outcomes and communicate key information to ensure continuity of care.

5. Implementation: Employ current and advanced treatment techniques to offer high-quality, efficient rehabilitative services. Provide both habilitation and rehabilitation, and organize patient care, prioritizing their needs and those of their families.

6. Outreach/Community Involvement: Serve as a resource to North Carolina government departments and statewide health professionals in specialty areas. Present at local (university/hospital), state, or national conferences and patient outreach events. Participate in community health screening and events. Collaborate with your peers, clinical specialists, and departmental leaders to meet emerging needs and develop new clinical programs.

7. Participation: Actively contribute to the quality of clinical services by participating in departmental meetings and in-service training. Your involvement is crucial to maintaining high standards of care and service delivery.

8. Quality: Uphold the quality of clinical services through meticulous maintenance of valid and reliable records of patient procedures and progress. Engage in quality improvement initiatives alongside departmental leaders, clinical specialists, and other healthcare professionals. Play a role in continuous quality improvement efforts.

● Graduation from an accredited Physical Therapy program.
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
● - Licensed as a Physical Therapist in the state of North Carolina.
● - BLS
Professional Experience Requirements:
● No prior experience required.

Ability to evaluate and treat a diverse orthopedic, geriatric, and sports-medicine patient population

Advanced continuing education in the realm of orthopedics, sports medicine, geriatrics, and manual therapy

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Excellent documentation skills and use of complex EMR

Self-directed and independent learner

Motivated to seek out learning and growth opportunities in the realm of outpatient orthopedics and sports medicine

Ability to provide clinical instruction to physical therapy and medical students and residents
