Description
Job Summary
The Lab Aide receives specimens from Operating Room (OR) and Breast Center for analysis by performing data entry, login of patient demographics and clinical information into computer systems and accessions specimen containers for the PA. The Lab Aide assists in histology department with slide distribution, inventory, and stocking, cleaning, and organization of the department.
Responsibilities And Scope
Reviews and accessions specimen requisitions performing accurate, timely data entry into hospital Lab Information System (LIS).
Answers departmental phone calls and assists clients as needed.
Assists with maintaining inventory levels and stocks and unloading of supplies
Records temperatures and daily cleaning records.
Assists with sending out requests.
Provides support functions to technologists including the loading and maintenance of instruments, making up of bulk reagents, and maintenance and function checks.
Contributes to the smooth and efficient operation of the section and department.
Responsible for filing slides and blocks. Changes tissue processor weekly. Dumps tissue bi-weekly. Maintains xylene recycler.
Qualifications
Required
High school degree or equivalent.
Basic computer and keyboard skills.
Preferred
Experience working in a laboratory setting.
