Summary:
This is a trainee position that enables participants to meet the requirements for the Central Sterile Tech position. The position will provides work experiences and training opportunities that will coincide with the learner’s course of study in a Sterile Processing/Surgical Technologist program. (If applicable)
Responsibilities:
1. Receive education on the proper process of instrument inspection for cleanliness and functionality (i.e. sharpness of scissors, smooth movement of hinged instruments, etc.). Instruction provided on instrument assembly, utilizing the instrument tracking system and count sheet, basin sets and equipment in preparation for sterilization.
2. Receive education on the proper process of pulling supplies and instruments used in a variety of clinical settings.
3. Receive education on the proper process of decontaminates, disinfection and thorough cleaning of instrumentation and equipment used in a variety of procedures.
4. Clean completed case carts from SPD to surgical areas.
5. Transport dirty case carts from the soiled case cart staging area to the SPD decontamination area.
6. Conduct soiled pick up rounds for patient care equipment and reusable instrument trays on a routine and as needed basis.
7. Assist with supply restocking
8. Assist with the OR presoak instrument decontamination/ and cleaning process as assigned.
9. Report instrument malfunction and place in the appropriate location to be sent for repair.
10. Remain cognizant of infection control norms in their workspace including PPE, appropriate paths of travel, sanitary handling and cross-contamination and acts according to up to date departmental policies.

Professional Experience Requirements:
● Current enrollment in a Community College Sterile Processing program or 6 months’ work experience in a healthcare setting. Preferably in the in the same facility that will be providing the training.
