Job Summary:
Are you passionate about improving health care delivery at scale? UNC Health is seeking a strategic and skilled Health Care System Business & Quality Improvement Leader to drive high-impact, system-wide transformation. In this role, you’ll lead cross-functional teams to design smarter processes, champion data-driven solutions, and mentor the next generation of improvement specialists. You'll collaborate with executives and frontline teams to deliver results that truly matter—for patients, providers, and the entire system.

As a key leader within our Ambulatory Quality & Clinical Care Transforation Team of the Health Alliance, you’ll be at the forefront of initiatives that improve clinical outcomes, operational efficiency, reduce unnecessary costs and improve the patient experience. What You’ll Do:

🔹 Lead Complex Improvement Initiatives, Projects & Programs

  • Drive system-level change across departments and service lines
  • Challenge the status quo and inspire teams to rethink processes
  • Influence and align leaders toward shared quality goals

🔹 Mentor & Develop Talent

  • Guide and develop specialists, analysts, and support staff
  • Serve as a coach and subject matter expert in quality tools and methodologies
  • Build internal capacity for continuous improvement

🔹 Drive Data-Informed Decisions

  • Lead advanced analytics to inform strategy (e.g., regression analysis, DOE)
  • Translate data into insights that drive practical, lasting change
  • Teach others how to use measurement for improvement

🔹 Problem Solve Across Boundaries

  • Facilitate collaborative problem-solving across disciplines
  • Resolve roadblocks, navigate differing priorities, and build consensus
  • Identify innovative solutions that simplify and improve performance

🔹 Shape the Future of Quality at UNC Health

  • Support strategic priorities in population health, equity, access, and more
  • Partner closely with executives to champion improvement
  • Contribute to a culture of excellence, accountability, and compassion

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred
  • Experience: Progressive leadership in quality improvement, process redesign, or systems engineering
  • Preferred Skills: Lean Six Sigma, statistical analysis, project management, coaching/mentorship

Professional Experience Requirements:
● Four (4) years of experience in quality team facilitation, project management, process improvement or quality data analysis.
● If Masters degree, then two (2) years of experience in quality team facilitation, project management, process improvement or quality data analysis.
