The primary purpose of this full time position is to assist the attending Congenital Heart Program Surgeon by using an in-depth knowledge of pediatric and adult patients with congenital heart anomalies in the pre-, peri-, and post-operative periods. This position will work in a University teaching hospital specifically with the Divisions of Cardiothoracic Surgery - Congenital Heart Program. This division provide care for patients in ambulatory, acute and critical care settings, and interacts with physicians, nurses, health science students and other disciplines in various locations throughout the hospital and medical school. This position works a flexible schedule based on rounds, conferences, clinical research, and special assignments in collaboration with a physician. This position is expected to perform duties, responsibilities and most assignments occur with considerable autonomy and self-direction in providing total medical care for patients. Requires an advanced degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program. Nurse Practitioners who have also completed a Certified Surgical First Assistant program or have documented first assistant experience prior to January 1st, 2016 will be considered. Previous Congenital Heart experience is preferred.
Completion of an accredited graduate-level Advanced Practice Provider (APRN or PA) program. Licensed as an Advanced Practice Provider (i.e., Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant, Clinical Pharmacist Practitioner, Certified Nurse Midwife, or Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist) in the state of North Carolina. Board certification if required by the Department.
Congenital Heart or Adult Cardiac Surgery experience preferred
