The IT Auditor role reports to, the Director of Audit Services, as part of the Audit, Compliance, and Privacy Services Department.

  • Evaluate technology systems, platforms, and operational processes against leading practices, frameworks and risk considerations.
  • Conduct risk-based IT, operational, and compliance assurance and consulting engagements across the audit life-cycle: planning, risk assessment, coordination, fieldwork, data analysis, evaluation of design and control effectiveness, work paper documentation, reporting, and remediation validation with oversight from the Director and senior team members.
  • Document work papers in a consistent and high quality manner, while executing project tasks within established timelines.
  • Strong project management and organization skills to prioritize tasks, balance workload, anticipate next steps, and adapt to change.
  • Tailor communications to audiences and persuasively articulate risk impacts to business and IT areas.
  • Compose concise, effective engagement reports with attention to detail.


  • Bachelor's degree in, Business Administration, Computer Science, Information Systems or related field (or equivalent combination of education, training and experience).
  • 2 years of experience in IT Audit
  • Data analytical skills
Preferred and highly desirable:
  • Working knowledge of IT General Controls, HIPAA, COBIT, NIST, ITIL, and ISO 27001
  • Knowledge of IDEA, TeamMate Audit Software, and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Information Security Manager (CISM), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), or other relevant industry recognized certification
  • Knowledge of the Institute of Internal Auditors International Professional Practices Framework (IPPF)
  • Excellent written and verbal skills 

This position is employed by NC Health (Rex Healthcare, Inc., d/b/a NC Health), a private, fully-owned subsidiary of UNC Health Care System, in a department that provides shared services to operations across UNC Health Care. This is not a State employed position.
