Job Description


The Medical Assistant II Certified provides routine clinical and administrative support to providers and other health care team members in an outpatient clinic setting. Works under the clinical supervision of the provider for patient care activities, and under the general direction of the designated manager/supervisor.

About our clinic:

Our clinic specializes in Ear, Nose and Throat, Rheumatology, Neurology and Urgent Care. We have five primary care providers and each provider has one Medical Assistant, Certified.  Our team also includes a Registered Nurse Clinical Coordinator, Medical Office Assistants that work the reception/check-in area, a Front Office Manager and a Practice Manager. We are proud to be recognized as a Level 3 Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH) by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA).

We are located on Hwy 42, just off of the Hwy 70 bypass and close to business 70 in Clayton so the commute is easy. Parking is provided on site.  Clinic days/hours: Primary Care is open 7 am to 7 pm Monday – Thursday and 7 am to 5 pm on Friday. We offer varied work schedules.  Each Medical Assistant, Certified who is assigned to Primary Care works 4 days a week.

Our practice seeks a collaborative team player who is adaptive to change and able to work with multiple providers. The ideal candidate has a positive attitude, gets along well with others, and effectively multi tasks while paying close attention to detail. Dependability and punctuality are also very important to us. Prior experience in Primary Care is a plus! 


Requires high school diploma or equivalent. Completion of a Medical Assisting program accredited by either the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accreditation Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) is strongly preferred but not required.

Possess at least one year of full-time experience as a Medical Assistant Certified. Demonstrate possession of the competencies outlined in the Certified Medical Assistant Advancement Worksheet through their application and interview.

Requires Medical Assistant certification by either the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), American Medical Technologists (AMT), National Healthcareer Association (CCMA) or National Center for Competency Testing (NCMA).

Prefer candidates with current Basic Life Support Certification from American Heart Association at the time of hire. If selected candidate does not possess BLS, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire.

This position is employed by NC Health (Rex Healthcare, Inc., d/b/a NC Health), a private, fully-owned subsidiary of UNC Heath Care System. This is not a State employed position.
