UNC Health seeks to hire multiple Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) to support our COVID response through our mobile Respiratory Diagnostic Center.  The mobile Respiratory Diagnostic Center travels to communities disproportionately impacted by COVID-19 to provide access to testing, in an outdoor setting. The current focus area is Southeast Raleigh. However, there is potential for the mobile unit to travel to other counties surrounding the Triangle.


Typical work schedule:

·       Monday & Friday: 8 am - 5 pm

·       Tuesday - Thursday: 11 am – 7 pm


The Certified Medical Assistant provides routine clinical and administrative support to providers and other health care team members in an outdoor setting. The Medical Assistant I Certified works under the clinical supervision of the provider for patient care activities, and under the general direction of the designated manager/supervisor for non-clinical responsibilities.

Candidates will be assigned to the mobile location but should prepare for the possibility to assist at other locations in response to patient need.


Description of Job Responsibilities:

Mobile Respiratory Diagnostic Center

Maintain a high level of infection prevention measures

Collect nasopharyngeal, nasal and oral swab specimens

·      Assist the provider as directed

·      Provide patient with after-visit, follow-up, self-care or procedural instructions and/or educational materials as directed.

·       Maintain safe working and clinical environment

·       Assist with site set-up and break down

Other Respiratory Diagnostic Centers

·       Perform rooming and/or intake process, collecting and data, including vital signs, height, weight, and data related to patient’s reason for visit.

·       Collect patient and family data, including medical and social history.

·       Review patient’s current medication list, allergies and preferred pharmacy.

·       Assist the provider as directed, during treatments, examinations and procedures.

·       Collect specimens and performs phlebotomy.

·       Administer medications under the direction of a provider.

·       Perform tests, for examples EKG, eye exams, under the direction of a provider.

·       Ensure exam/procedure room contains appropriate supplies, equipment, forms and educational materials are available and ready for use during visit/procedure.

·       Provide patient with after-visit, follow-up, self-care or procedural instructions and/or educational materials as directed.

Qualifications

Education and Experience Requirements:

Requires high school diploma or equivalent.

Completion of a Medical Assisting program accredited by either the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accreditation Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) is strongly preferred but not required.

Prior medical assistant or medical assistant externship experience preferred.

Requires Medical Assistant certification by either the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), American Medical Technologists (AMT), National Healthcareer Association (CCMA) or National Center for Competency Testing (NCMA).

Prefer candidates with current Basic Life Support Certification from American Heart Association at the time of hire. If selected candidate does not possess BLS, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire.
