Job Summary:

 The Advanced Analytical Consultant is a UNC system-wide analytics expert focused on applying conventional and advanced analytical methods to deliver novel insights and process improvement opportunities to the clinical and business leaders of the UNC Health Care system. A successful candidate will bring a broad set of skills spanning data (integration, aggregation, standardization), analytics (descriptive and predictive statistical theory and practice, modeling), programming (e.g. Python, R), and consulting (e.g. business needs analysis, project definition, project management, customer management, communication). Advanced Analytical Consultants work both as independent problem solvers and contribute their specialized data science expertise to clinical and business project teams across the system. As members of the Enterprise Analytics and Data Sciences group, consultants help to transition proven methods, algorithms, and deliverables to full production support by the EADS Solutions team.

 
 Description of Job Responsibilities:
 
  1. Communication and Relationship Building: The Advanced Analytical Consultant is fluent in communicating with senior executives and operations staff about business needs and orchestrating groups with disparate views into consensus around a plan.
  2. Project Leader: Assembles and leads teams of clinical and business staff from across the system to frame business problems, determine if those problems can be translated into an actionable analytics, scope effort, and drive consensus among key stakeholders.
  3. Requirements Analysis: Manages relationships with internal customers, working with both leaders and end users to characterize requirements and ensuring the successfully delivery of solutions to meet those needs. Leverages product management processes and principles to drive the iterative creation of new data and analytical capabilities and assets for the system. Provides full service solution/project delivery to business units and strategic customers.
  4. Technical Expert: Advises product and project teams on the use of analytical methods. Acts as a resource for team members in translating business needs into technical designs. Identifies technical roadblocks and troubleshoots and resolves functional and performance related issues.
  5. Statistical Model Design, Development, and Validation: Designs and develops enterprise-class statistical models to address complex business problems. Participates in design/development of comprehensive data processing, reporting, and analytical solutions. Participates in design/development of innovative business solutions. Develops and/or enhances database objects, including queries, procedures, and views. Leads the design, execution, and interpretation of data studies – including sample size calculations, statistical methods selection, population profiling, segmentation, model development / tuning, and other analytical tasks. Establishes scalable, efficient, automated processes for large scale data analyses and model development, validation, and implementation.
 

Qualifications

Education Requirements:

Master’s degree in Statistics, Biostatistics, Economics, Computer Science, Information Systems Management or a quantitative-related field.

 
Licensure/Certification Requirements:

No licensure or certification required.

 
Professional Experience Requirements:

If a Master’s degree: Seven (7) years of relevant experience.

If a Doctorate degree: Five (5) years of relevant experience.

Prior experience with R, SAS or SPSS, other data mining tools, databases, and computer programming.

 
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Requirements:
  • Proficient in the application of a broad range of statistical and quantitative methods including descriptive and inferential statistics, regression, clustering, machine learning, simulation, optimization, and algorithm design.
  • Skilled at querying and manipulating data in relational databases.
  • Experience designing and developing complex code, such as software applications or statistical packages.
  • Proficiency with git or similar version control systems.
  • Track record of developing and delivering analytical projects for customers, including scoping and presenting results.
  • A high degree of professionalism, enthusiasm, autonomy and initiative. Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong project management, planning, communication, documentation, organization, and problem solving abilities.
  • Ability to interpret and summarize results of various analyses in a timely and meaningful way.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively (both orally and in writing) to convey technical and business value propositions to non-technical audiences.
  • Excellent interpersonal and facilitation skills in order to work with disparate, and at times contentious, groups effectively.
 

This position is employed by NC Health (Rex Healthcare, Inc., d/b/a NC Health), a private, fully-owned subsidiary of UNC Health Care System, in a department that provides shared services to operations across UNC Health Care. This is not a State employed position.
