Job Description


This is a full-time (36 hours/week) nights position

The UNC REX Neonatal Intensive Care unit is a Level IV NICU with 21 beds. Our nurses specialize in the care of infants requiring special attention due to prematurity and its complications, neonatal transitional problems, congenital anomalies and other problems. We have a dedicated team of neonatologists who care for 450 to 500 newborns with critical or special care needs each year. Our team has a strong commitment to families, acknowledged by two national achievement awards for “support of the family experience.” The REX NICU ranked in the top 10 percent of special care nurseries for parent satisfaction of the quality of care in 2014.

Maintains an environment of safety for patients, self and others.
Prepares, maintains, and disseminates unit reports according to guidelines and as requested.
Transcribes, documents, and transmits physician orders and other pertinent information.
Prepares and maintains the patient's medical record.
Requisitions supplies and submits patient charts.
Answers telephone and intercom calls and provides information or relays messages to patients/families and member of the health care team. Directs visitors to patients' rooms.
Performs activities of daily living for or with patients.
Provides transport for patients to designated areas within the facility.
Takes and records temperature, blood pressure, pulse and respiration rates, and food and fluid intake and output, as directed.
Completes specified Nursing Assistant and Unit Secretary tasks.
Communicates pertinent patient information to appropriate person(s).


Completion of an accredited Nursing Assistant Training program and listing with the Nurse Aide Registry with the Department of Facility Services.  High School Diploma/GED.
This position is employed by NC Health (Rex Healthcare, Inc., d/b/a NC Health), a private, fully-owned subsidiary of UNC Heath Care System. This is not a State employed position.
