Description

The essential duties and responsibilities of a Speech Therapist Per Visit include:

-Maintaining an environment of safety for patients, self and others
-Administering, scoring and interpreting hearing and speech tests
-Evaluating patients and their environment to include medical history, speech and language skills, safety issues, cognitive skills and judgement as related to educational, medical, social and psychological factors
-Developing care plans based on the patient's medical history, evaluations, the physician orders and the patient's/family's/caregiver's goals
-Developing and revising the home health aide Plan of Care as appropriate 
-Orienting, instructing and directing the work activities of students and home health aides related to care plans
-Acting as case manager to coordinate the delivery of home care services
-Preparing written treatment programs, directing, or conducting rehabilitative treatment programs to restore communicative effectiveness of individuals with communication problems
-Providing written home programs and instructing patients/caregivers in skills and techniques required for safe swallowing and speech
-Evaluating the effects of the treatment at various stages and adjusting the treatment to achieve maximum benefits
-Documenting evaluations, treatments, responses, communications and progresses in the patient's chart
-Conferring with the physician and other practitioners, individually or in conferences, to obtain additional patient information, suggest revisions in treatment program and integrate speech therapy
-Participating in performance improvement activities such as work groups to improve processes or chart audits 

Other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications

Requirements
-Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification
-Certificate of Clinical Competence in the field of Speech Pathology (CCC-SLP)
-Licensed Speech Therapist in the state of North Carolina (ST NC LIC)
-Valid North Carolina Driver's License (NCDL)
-One (1) to two (2) years of previous experience as a speech language pathologist

Preferences
-Bachelor's degree from an accredited university
-Master's degree in Speech and Language Pathology
This position is employed by NC Health (Rex Healthcare, Inc., d/b/a NC Health), a private, fully-owned subsidiary of UNC Heath Care System. This is not a State employed position.
