Pediatric Respiratory Therapist needed for Pediatric Transport Team
This is a 36 hour per week position with the Carolina Air Care Pediatric / Neonatal Critical Care Transport Team. This position requires rotating 12 hours and 24 hours shifts. The work environment is an aircraft and ground ambulance with some time spent outdoors functioning independently with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in the environment without restrictions. May assume Charge Therapist responsibilities and serves as a resource to other staff. Aids in training and provides in-services.
Administers standard Respiratory Care including but not limited to, aerosol medication delivery, basic bedside pulmonary function testing, breathing exercises, oxygen therapy, arterial cannulation and arterial punctures. Provides for all aspects of airway management including aspiration of established airways, tracheostomy care, tracheostomy tube changes, endotracheal intubations and extubations. Records completely all pertinent information pertaining to patient care procedures per hospital and departmental policies via electronic medical record system.
Carolina Air Care - Transports pediatric and neonatal patients from referral hospitals per UNC Air Care Protocol. Perform respiratory care and advanced practice procedures per UNC Air Care Protocol. These procedures include UAC, UVC, IV insertion, introaaeous insertion, chest tube insertion, needle decompression, ABGs, blood glucose monitoring, and others as deemed necessary by the medical control officer.
ECMO May manage the Extracorporeal circulation for cardiac and respiratory support of patients. May be required to be on-call days, nights, weekends and holidays
Performs all aspects of ventilator care to include, but not limited to setting up the ventilator and verifying function using specialized ventilator modes to manage the patients disease process. Provide for an appropriate monitoring of these weaning techniques.
Requires graduation from an accredited Respiratory Therapy program. Must be licensed as a Respiratory Care Practitioner by the North Carolina Respiratory Care Board and registry eligible by the National Board of Respiratory Care. Must be registered within one year of hire.
(1) Three years minimum, five years preferred and recent respiratory therapy experience in Neonatal or Pediatric ICU
(2) Current Certification in BLS, PALS, NRP, ACLS
(3) Must meet Fit for Duty requirements
(4) Weight 215 lbs. or less
(5) Able to lift 150 lbs. with assistance
(6) EMT-Basic or Paramedic credential prior to hire is desirable
(7) Previous experience teaching or lecturing is desirable
(8) Need to possess NC Driver's License in good standing
Prefer within 1 year of hire:
(1) Pediatric ITLS
(2) ATLS audit
Prefer within 18 months of hire:
(1) Professional specialty certification
